Whole engine cut off and check engine light came on with “engine stopped - power steering low”. Would act like it wanted to start again but shut back off every time. On two different occasions the vehicle has lurched pulled forward while I was sitting stopped foot on the brake. The first incident I was stopped at a stop sign waiting to enter a highway. All of a sudden the motor revved up and vehicle began lurching forward the brake I was pushing on would not stop the vehicle. I was dragged from the stop sign to the highway. I had to turn the key off to stop the Vehicle. The second incident was about a week later. I was stopped at a red light. Foot again on the brake. Suddenly the engine began to rev up and lurching against the brake. I immediately turned the engine off this time. Finally got the vehicle towed to Postoak Toyota in Midwest City where I purchased it. Postoak had told me three different times that I would have to to pay the tow fee or drive the unsafe vehicle to them. About an hour and a half drive. Finally Triple AAA said I was covered through Postoak. Had vehicle towed on May 31 2025. On June 3,2025 I was informed by a Postoak mechanic there was nothing found wrong with my vehicle. I was informed the vehicle has a start stop feature and letting my foot off brake when stopped would cause a small lurch. What happened to me twice in the Rav 4 was no small lurch. | May 2025 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | I bought my car in the end of November 2024, and in April 2025 which is less than 5 months and the car's been driven less than 2,000 miles, I noticed the black plastic parts of my car in the front have been melting. This is a defect in the material composition. I see a good amount of other people sharing their similar melting experience on online platforms. When I brought the car and shown pictures to a local Toyota service center, Toyota says it's due to solar convergence. I also called Toyota corporate, and they told me it's not my fault. But they're not helping me fix the issue and repair my car. This should be under warranty. I just bought my car. I do not live somewhere with hot weather. It doesn't make sense, and it isn't acceptable for the car's plastic material on the outside to be melting like this. Cars behind me could have been hit by flying glass. I have heard of this happening in the 2021 Rav 4's. The sunroof was looked by a Toyota dealership and they didn't say anything about it, only saying it was not covered under warranty. | May 2025 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | On my way home from work it started to rain, and my pre-collision light came on. The rain slowed down as I was home put the vehicle in park to take a picture of the pre-collision light, and the light went off. This happens around October to December of 2024. I checked and cleaned Front windshield and front Toyota emblem. I couldn't find anything wrong. One day in January 2025 after church on a sunny day as soon as I put my vehicle in gear the pre-collision light came on again which I was able to get a picture of. Each time I checked windshield and front emblem and found nothing wrong. I took the vehicle to Hendrick Toyota to have the pre-collision light checked January 23, 2025. I was told no codes were found and the reason my light came on it because my vehicle sensor is dirty. I told the service adviser when my light went of the vehicle was clean including all the sensor. The only reason the vehicle was dirty was because it had snowed the day before and I had to drive in the snow, slush, and salt to get to the dealership. I also informed them this not my first vehicle with forward Collison sensor. I had owned 3 Toyota Corolla with the same tocology. I was also told by another service advisor that She has seen other Rav4 with pre-collision light problems. About one week after dealership checked the pre-collision sensor it came on again and once again, I checked and made sure all sensors were clean. April 4/28/2025 I brought the vehicle to the dealership again to have the pre-collision sensor checked. This time they said they found codes from way back. I asked them how far back and were these codes back from my first service. Service adviser didn't know. But on my paper receipt it said they didn't find any codes but notice a very small rock chip in the glass and blamed it on that, which was not there when my problem had started with my issue of the pre-collision light. | May 2025 | STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | I was driving home in exceptionally heavy rain. Before getting home, I decided to stop at a coffee drive thru. It was still raining pretty heavily as I drove up to the pick up window. I had my foot on the brake as I waited for my order. A few minutes went by when suddenly the car shook a bit and completely shut off. A warning sign came up on the dash screen that read “engine stopped, steering power low” and instructed to put the car in park. That warning message would come up every time I tried to put the gearshift back in drive. I kept trying to restart the car many times, the engine cracked but no start. At one point I even tried putting the car in neutral to attempt to push it out of drive thru lane but the car and steering wheel were locked in place. There was no way to move either. It’s still raining at this point but it has significantly lightened up. About 15 - 20 minutes later, the car started up like normal and I was able to put the gearshift in drive. The car is less than a year old and nothing like this has ever happened before. There were absolutely no warning signs prior to this happening, everything on the dashboard and the mobile app associated with the car showed the car was in “good health.” I am SO incredibly lucky this happened at a drive thru and not in the middle of a highway or busy intersection. You are left completely helpless since the engine completely shuts off and the steering wheel locks. If this happened on a highway, it would immediately create a multi vehicle accident or potentially worse. This is a HUGE safety risk that needs to be addressed immediately. | Apr 2025 | AIR BAGS,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | My pregnant wife is parking her car at her work when she accidentally step on the gas pedal instead of the brakes. She panicked and she drove all the way to the wall. Airbags were not activated. 911 was dispatched. Police report made. Only minor injury finger fracture and chest bruise. There was a severe frontal damage to the car. Insurance deemed it totaled due to frame damage. I also complained to Toyota. They hired a software engineer to investigate. Just received official letter from Toyota there weee no defects in their safety system. The issues are the airbags not being deployed at the time of impact and pre collision auto braking non existent. The impact on the wall according to the people inside the nursing she works felt like an earthquake inside. But our main concern is the auto brake feature did not function. This accident could have been worse. Good thing seatbelt was not an inch lower from her chest preventing injury to our unborn child. The impact could have been worse if it was made of wood and could have injured other people in the nursing home. The auto brake feature should have worked because there were many obstacles at her front including first the bushes and eventually the wall. Their response letter is frustrating for us because they are claiming there were no problems in the car. But our concern is their safety system is not reliable compare to other car companies. | Apr 2025 | STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | I was in a parking space at the local library, waiting on my children. It was raining, and had been raining most of the day. I had driven about 60 miles in the rain before going to the library. The car was on, but in park. The car started slightly shaking (like a big truck was going by), and it looked like some smoke was coming out of the engine. The car then flashed some lights on the dash and gave the following message: Engine Stopped. Steering Power Low. It then turned off, and I tried to turn it on multiple times to no avail. After researching online while waiting for a tow truck, I saw multiple references on Reddit to this problem. I waited about 20 minutes and was able to turn the car on, though it was hesitant. I was able to cancel the tow and drive the short distance home. It was scary because it came out of nowhere and this is a BRAND NEW CAR with only about 27,000 miles on it. I am not happy that this would be something I will have to worry about in the future. | Apr 2025 | STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | This is a follow up of an incident reported on 3/30/2025, after the vehicle was driven approximately 30 miles in the rain, then stopped for 5 to 10 minutes idling with windshield wipers on intermittent setting. Engine began to shudder, engine rpms increased/decreased erratically as the engine shook. The vehicle was turned off. After approximately 5 minutes, restarted vehicle and engine again ran erratically and then stalled, displaying “Engine Stopped, Steering Power Low” on the message center in the driver’s display. After the engine stalled, the vehicle would not restart and had to be towed. After being towed, the vehicle started and ran smooth. A short while later, the vehicle was started but again ran erratically, but did not stall right away and was turned off. The next day, 3/31/2025, the vehicle was taken to the dealership service department. The dealer stated that there were no diagnostic trouble codes stored in the vehicle computer, the battery was good condition, and the charging system was operating normally. They had no explanation for what happened. The service advisor suggested that when the gas tank was filled, it was overfilled after the gas pump clicked off. This, in fact is not the case. The gas tank was not overfilled. The service advisor was informed that there are other complaints online by other owners of the same symptoms under similar weather conditions while the vehicle is idling. I then put the car in park, with the wipers still on intermittent setting and the engine still running. After sitting in park like this for approximately 5 minutes, the engine began to shudder, with engine RPMs decreasing and increasing erratically, and the engine was also shaking as the RPMs increased and decreased. I then turned the car off for approximately 5 minutes. When I restarted the car after 5 minutes, the erratic RPM resumed, and then the engine stopped running, and my display screen showed the following message: “Engine Stopped, Steering Power Low”. The check engine, check steering, and check battery lights were also illuminated on the dashboard. The vehicle would not restart after several tries and ultimately ended up having the vehicle towed 30 minutes. There was not impact from a rock or other object, no potholes or other defects in the road, and this did not occur under overpass. The car is less than 1 year old and it appears to be a common occurrence in similar models over the last few years. | Mar 2025 | SERVICE BRAKES,SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC | I noticed at 3 thousand miles my abs light would come on and the abs would kick in and hear a grinding noise when braking over a slight dip in the road and entering a parking lot (breaking on incline slope or decline slope. I brought it into the Toyota dealership and they said they looked at everything (only 5 minutes) and nothing was wrong with brakes. The abs kicking in while braking on dry pavement has never gone away. At about 28,000 miles, i started to hear a brake squeaking noise coming from the front drivers side tire while braking at slow speeds, and when backing up. It came and went and now it is consistent and does it all the time and also squeaking when not breaking and turning to the right. I had a mechanic remove my tire and he said the bolt to the brake caliper is loose and the caliper itself is loose and that the brake pads are fine. I am now seeing there is a safety recall for this exact complaint for my exact car, Toyota rav4 hybrid 2024 , however, when checking if my vechile is part of the recall, by entering my VIN #, it says my vehicle is not part of this recall. This needs to be addressed and fixed by Toyota as this is a manufacturing defect. A caliper bolt should not come loose on its own if properly installed. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
