| Dec 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,BACK OVER PREVENTION | Bought my Tesla Model Y on [XXX]. Exactly one month later on [XXX] I start my car to find that none of the cameras are working. This means Autopilot, cruise control, rear camera, blind spot monitoring and many more safety features are completely down. In addition the GPS does not function meaning my car is not trackable and Maps don't work, another safety concern and main reason we bought the car. This is a widespread issue that Tesla Service Centers have been informed about from Tesla that it is a bad computer that needs to be replaced - in a 1 MONTH old car. My only option is to wait for a computer to be assigned to me which is at earliest on January 21st of 2025, almost 6 weeks without a fully functioning brand new $46,000 Car with only 1400 miles on it. Tesla are also unwilling to make any kind of restitution such as a loaner car, or a refund for the Full Self Drive and Connectivity packages I just purchased but cannot use as my car is broken. Here is a link to an article showing this - [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE | Tesla has told me the AP4 computer has failed in my car which has resulted in them having to replace it. I had this issue start right around Thanksgiving, specifically [XXX]. I scheduled the soonest appointment available for 12/13 however Tesla contacted me and moved my appointment because they stated that the part was unavailable at this time and should be delivered by 01/20/25. Not offering me a rental or anything on my brand new '24 Tesla. It has just over 2500 miles on it and is ~2 months old now. This issue impacts: emergency braking, blind spot detection, lane keep/centering, assisting with parking, automatic high beams and wipers, cruise control/ adaptive cruise control, Vehicles built in GPS to be stuck at one location every time, has made my touchscreen not automatically brighten or dim, my auto dimming mirrors be too dim in most driving conditions, constantly fail to install system improvements and safety updates, and because my vehicle keeps trying to do this, it has caused increased battery drain as well. Additionally, the vehicle came to a stop on the highway when my wife and I were in the car on the night of [XXX], forcing us to perform an emergency pullover and abandon the car 22 miles north of Rochester, MN overnight. This has increased the safety risk of my vehicle tremendously... Tesla has not seemed to publicly acknowledge the issue yet either. | Dec 2024 | LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | Tesla has told me the AP4 computer has failed in my car which has resulted in them having to replace it. I had this issue start right around Thanksgiving. I scheduled the soonest appointment available at 12/24 however Tesla contacted me and moved my appointment because they stated that the part was unavailable at this time and should be delivered by 01/20/25. Not offering me a rental or anything on my brand new '24 Tesla. It has just over 4000 miles on it and is ~2 months old now. | Dec 2024 | BACK OVER PREVENTION | All of the camera systems are not working (inlcuding the back-up camera), and navigation has failed as well. Followed all instructions on Telsa Manual and website, with no luck. Saftey features promised by the manufacturer don't work because of this. No warnings have appeared. I have scheduled service,at the soonest available time slot of December 27th, but I'm concerned about this happening with a brand new vehicle with on 2,015 miles on it and a 12-day wait doesn't seem acceptable for something that affects safety. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | BACK OVER PREVENTION | Hello, I have a 2024 Tesla Model Y (Fremont Build) that was purchased in early September 2014. On or around November 30th a software update "fried" the computer according to Tesla. The call the computer AP4... Anyway, they have no ability to fix the issue because of lack of parts. They make an appt for you and then keep cancelling it. I've had two so far that they cancelled because of not having parts. There are thousands of users on Reddit complaining about the same thing. My specific complaint, is this is a safety issue for the Model Y in particular because the mirrors and rear window are inadequate for this size of a car. Visibility to the sides and rear of the car are poor when compared to other vehicles. The rear window and rear view mirror are very small. You cannot see much out of it especially when backing up. Parking in a parking lot is very problematic and dangerous because that's where people are often walking around. The side view mirrors are better than the rear view, but the driver side mirror keeps self adjusting while driving and I have to keep messing with it which makes it unreliable for use. Tesla has been awful in keeping up. Please help! | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | Tesla has told me the AP4 computer has failed in my car which has resulted in them having to replace it. I had this issue start right around Thanksgiving. I scheduled the soonest appointment available for 12/16 however Tesla contacted me and moved my appointment because they stated that the part was unavailable at this time and should be delivered by 01/20/25. Not offering me a rental or anything on my brand new '24 Tesla. It has just over 1,000 miles on it and is ~3 months old now. This issue impacts: emergency braking, blind spot detection, lane keep/centering, assisting with parking, automatic high beams and wipers, cruise control/ adaptive cruise control, Vehicles built in GPS to be stuck at one location every time, has made my touchscreen not automatically brighten or dim, my auto dimming mirrors be to dim in most driving conditions, constantly fail to install system improvements and safety updates, and because my vehicle keeps trying to do this, it has caused increased battery drain as well. | Dec 2024 | VISIBILITY/WIPER,BACK OVER PREVENTION | All the cameras for the Tesla Model Y has stopped working, without this lots of features stopped working including rear camera which is needed to reverse to charge the vehicle and anyware to park. All the collision warning systems including front and side stopped working. Wipers don't activate and figured to change to manual. Headlights always stay in highbeam. Looks like there are known issues and Tesla claims they don't have hardware to replace making us to not use the car for almost 30 days. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | BACK OVER PREVENTION | I took delivery on a 2025 Tesla Y on Oct 17. All cameras and gps stopped working on Nov 30, including the backup camera. Based on posts online, this problem is widespread but Tesla has not sent any notification. Tesla Service says the computer has to be replaced and there is a lengthy delay in getting the replacements. My appointment has been moved twice, from Dec 5 to Dec 9 and now to Jan 9. For months, many people will be driving without a backup camera in a car not designed for visibility. It’s a real safety issue and at a minimum tesla should warn current owners of the problem and stop delivering the cars that will likely be impacted. Instead, i have been unable to get any acknowledgement from Tesla that this is a known or widespread issue. They are also not making loaner cars available while waiting for the part to fix the problem. I’ve been told “it’s not a safety issue.” | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | BACK OVER PREVENTION | Unknown. Cameras don’t work, cruise control doesn’t work, gps doesn’t work. Internet says it’s ap4 computer shorted after recent update. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | BACK OVER PREVENTION | The rear (reverse) camera and side cameras (ie lane change) do not function. The navigation does not function. The console touchscreen does not adapt to environment light level for safe viewing. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | LANE DEPARTURE,BACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | All cameras stopped working. With this, all safety features are not working. I can’t see to back up at night. No collision avoidance, no lane departure warning, high beams don’t stay on, turn signal doesn’t stay on. It has been two weeks and Tesla has no fix. There was no warning, just noticed it one day as I was driving it and was very dangerous in dark snowy conditions. I called Tesla service immediately and they gave me an appointment for following week. Then next day I got message from them that there are a large number of vehicles having the issue and they said they don’t have a fix for it and moved my appt out 7 weeks. I have gotten no help from them and I told them I don’t feel safe driving the car. They have not provided another car. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | BACK OVER PREVENTION | Cameras have stopped working completely. Unable to use rear collision warning capability. Additionally, lane departure capabilities are not working. Navigation is unavailable. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,BACK OVER PREVENTION | After latest Tesla software upgrade, all cameras and GPS stops working. All automatic functionalities of the car stops working without cameras, and it is really unsafe to drive, for example back up the car since the physical rear view mirror is very small, and car is naturally designed with those cameras to function properly. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | BACK OVER PREVENTION | The backup camera has failed. There is no image available. Additionally all of the ADAS systems are no longer working. I am not able to see nor hear any warning messages. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | BACK OVER PREVENTION | Cameras don’t work, lane keep don’t work, blind sport don’t work. Car is unsafe to drive. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | BACK OVER PREVENTION | All the Cameras on the vehicle were unavailable starting today (12/08), including the Rear view Camera. The vehicle was not drivable and no cruise control was working. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,BACK OVER PREVENTION | On Nov 23, 2023, I was reversing car from my driveway in the morning. Car started giving warnings with issue on all its cameras. While reversing car, it will give error that rear view camera not available. While giving left/ right turn signal, it is showing blank screen for that view. All other safety features like blind spot detection, lane assist are not working at all. I also started getting error message that emergency brake is not available. I have been contacting them for immediate repair/ provide loaner car from same date (11/23/2023). Earliest appointment date given is Dec 11, 2023. This is not acceptable at all. It is very dangerous to drive the car without those safety futures. I am also concerned on any other issues which it has not reported. I don't feel safe to drive the car. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | LANE DEPARTURE,BACK OVER PREVENTION | All Cameras not working with latest Software update - told need new AP4 computer on 2024 model Y which is 2 months old. Tesla service advisor states - car is totally safe to drive with just mirrors till appointment in few weeks. No backup camera, navigation, battery life dying faster. It seems like a liability to me to drive this way and very negligent to me. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | The computer is not working which connects to the forward collision warning system, navigation, and all safety when it comes to driving. I am still waiting to hear back from Tesla about the problem and haven't had a resolution. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | Vehicle cameras stopped working. Navigation stopped working. Screen also stopped working for a time. Was able to get it back on but it went off multiple times since. If I can't see the screen, I can't tell how fast I'm going to do anything else. Cameras control many of not all of the safety systems. So those are all inoperable. Issue is being reported across multiple forums all over the internet as "short in ap4 module." | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | EXTERIOR LIGHTING | The low beam left headlight (matrix LED) has had a dark spot in the drivers view since the vehicle was purchased in new in March 2024. This dark spot limits visibility at night and I feel is a serious safety issue. It has almost caused me to hit a pedestrian on more than one occasion. I raised this issue with Tesla service immediately after taking delivery of the vehicle. It's still not fixed. I've had (4) completed service appointments and they have failed to fix it. Their last response was "this is how the matrix LED lights function." If so, it should definitely be recalled. I did tell them I'm filing this report and they told me they would try to replace the left headlight. Sadly that's what it takes for a replacement. I've shared videos, pictures and had the service writer at Tesla confirm the dark spot is large enough to be concerning. A person walking or on a bike can easily fit into the size of the dark spot. There are pictures on the internet from others complaining about this issue as well. Just did a Google search and saw multiple postings for this exact issue. My guess is they have a bad batch of headlights or design flaw and they are in denial it's a major enough issue to simply replace them with good ones. I'm hoping others reported this issue. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2024 | EXTERIOR LIGHTING,BACK OVER PREVENTION | Components Failing - Reported as central computer. This made the vehicle turn signals and backup cameras fail as critical components. These two elements were/are completely non-functional. Additional less critical safety functions that have been disabled include blind spot monitoring and cameras, both forward and reverse emergency braking, and pedestrian alerts. My safety was put at-risk due to camera failures while driving and backing out of parking spaces. These vehicles are designed with poor and minimal visibility due to their cameras compensating for visibility shortcomings. You cannot adequately see proximity to other vehicles or pedestrians when cameras are not active. This particular impacts reversing when backing in and out of parking spots since the rear windshield is so small and poorly angled. Drivers have reported that the cameras for them are failing mid-drive leading them to not know where other vehicles were next to them and making unsafe lane changes thinking their warning systems were active. The vehicle component has NOT been inspected by anyone as there was thankfully no actually accident or incident due to the failure. Tesla has not inspected the vehicle due to NO availability for 3+ weeks and they will not consider human contact to expedite review. There are now 100s of community reports of the same defect on online communities all showing failures on same-day or within 24 hours of each other. There were no warnings prior to the failure. The symptoms simply stopped working. It required a phone call to Tesla support to even receive an accurate error code. Tesla is claiming a "short" in the main computer system of the vehicle. This occurred for myself and dozens of others all within several hours of each other in the early morning hours of Friday November 29th 2024. Suspicion is that that this was due to a software update from Tesla. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2024 | EXTERIOR LIGHTING | Auto high beams: They come far too soon or don't dim when when following other vehicles, they do not dim soon enough when meeting cars over rolling hills. They do not dim for oncoming vehicles on a slight bend in the road or on intersecting streets. They also do not dim when in town on lit streets. I've tried to turn them off and manually operate the lights. You are unable to disable the auto high beams for more than a brief period when FSD is available (enabled or disabled). Any action (turning on legacy cruise control, Auto-steer beta, FSD, disengaging and reengaging FSD, shifting the car out of part, etc) turns the auto high beams on regardless of whether or not I disabled them previously. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2024 | LANE DEPARTURE | At night, on paved and well-painted rural roads, where there is no other sources of light, the pillar cameras incorrectly warn they are blocked or blinded. At the same time the Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keeping Assistance stop functioning without warning. On the image below I let the car drift over the line. As I crossed the line, the display should have highlighted the line in blue and there should have been a flashing warning at the top of the screen and an audible warning. None of those occurred. Since lane keeping assistance was enabled. It should have also steered the car back into the lane. I can regularly reproduce the issue. We don't understand why they are using the pillar cameras for this and not the forward cameras that can take advantage of the headlights. It is unsafe, especially since I am not warned of the system is not available. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2024 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The contact owns a 2024 Tesla Model Y. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed with Full Self-Driving Assist Mode activated, the vehicle inadvertently veered off the road, drove over a curb and came to a complete stop. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle then operated as needed; however, the failure recurred several times while driving. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 3,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 3,000 |
