Apr 2025 STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER The horn stopped working in our 2024 Elantra. This is a widespread issue (see NHTSA complaints and Reddit posts). I called ahead to verify with the San Leandro dealership that parts were in stock to perform this repair under warranty (prior to scheduling appointment). We arrived and were told that parts were actually not available (after a 3-hour diagnostic). What changed? Hyundai issued a TSB (technical service bulletin) informing dealerships of how this issue is to be repaired (designating a specific part number, while excluding otherwise qualified Hyundai parts). Without TSB, the dealership could have performed this repair under warranty with the in-stock parts. The dealership could still perform the repair, but Hyundai would not reimburse them under warranty. With a[XXX] wife, I was unable to wait and return later for the warranty to cover the repair. I paid $429 to the dealership for the repair to be done with in-stock parts. I left the dealership with a genuine & working Hyundai horn, but it was not covered by Hyundai’s warranty. Hyundai has refused to reimburse us. Two key takeaways: 1 - Hyundai is denying there is a widespread issue while secretly telling dealerships how to address it. The unpublished TSB demonstrates that Hyundai is aware of a widespread safety issue, and is failing to issue a recall. The majority of NHSTA complaints for this vehicle reference horn failure. This is a safety issue. I was involved in an accident where I could not warn another driver before the collision. 2 - The TSB is a mechanism by which Hyundai is refusing to perform repairs that should be covered by warranty. This is a violation of Hyundai’s stated commitment to customers that is not stated even in the fine print of the warranty. Mar 2025 STEERING,SUSPENSION,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL Towards the end of January, my car computer was reset because the car was telling me that I needed an oil change early and the dealership told me it could just be a computer issue. I then took my car to get an oil change and full vehicle inspection on February 24th, 2 days after that on the 26th I was leaving my school parking lot when the vehicle accelerated awkwardly when I was leaving out of a parking spot, I was then able to gain control back over the speed until the vehicle again abruptly accelerated and jerked to the left sending my car over a curb, deploying the air bag, and completely totaling out the vehicle.

Jan 2025 UNKNOWN OR OTHER At 16,000 miles the horns on my vehicle failed. This occured on busy tollway just as a driver began to enter my lane from the right side. When I tried to engage my horn to warn him I was unable and had to slam on my brakes to avoid a collision. The driver behind me came within inches of rear ending me and he swerved into another lane almost causing another collision. Then the original driver thought I was brake checking him and went around me an slammed on his brakes in retribution. Horns that were used to repair by dealer were new OEM's. At 24,000 miles a similar experience occured where I had to slam on my brakes because I was unable to warn another driver that we were about to collide, but the horns failed. Once again the dealer had to replace the defective horns with more of the same OEM horns that have been proven by myself and others to be unreliable. In researching complaints about this issue I have seen numerous other owners of 23 and 24 Elantras (and Konas) making same complaint, some of which had to have their horns replaced multiple times. I complained to Hyundai Corporate and requested an alternate replacement horn as now I have to drive a 1 year old car that I don't know if the horns are going to work or not, and despite all the evidence I presented to them, they refused. I cannot allow any other family members to drive my $21,000 car for fear that they might not be as "lucky" as I was in avoiding an accident. I am told that the NHTSA does not consider a horn as a safety item and therefore not within their jurisdiction. I find that difficult to understand due to the lack of horns definitely put me in a position twice that directly related to my and the other driver's safety. What other reason could there be for a horn other than waking up drivers at a redlight who are looking at their phones instead of paying attention? I'm sure that when Henry Ford put horns on his cars that it was not for any other reason than safety.

Jan 2025 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE NOVEMBER 2023: PURCHASE VEHICLE. SEPTEMBER 2, 2024: DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 50-55MPH IN RIGHT LANE. NO ONE/NOTHING IN FRONT OF ME. CLEAR DAY. VEHICLE COLLISION ALERT STARTS BEEPING, VEHICLE ABRUPTLY BRAKES AND STEERS ITSELF INTO THE LEFT LANE. I FEARED FOR MY LIFE AND ALSO FOR THE PERSON WHO WAS BEHIND ME. SEPTEMBER 16-17, 2024: DROP OFF VEHICLE AT DEALERSHIP FOR OIL CHANGE. NOTFD SERVICE ADVISOR OF SEP 2 INCIDENT, REQUESTED INVESTIGATION. WAS TOLD I'D HAVE TO PAY FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND THEY WOULD LIKELY NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I WAS ALSO TOLD IN SUMMARY: "NOTHING SEEMED WRONG, INCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN A GLITCH, WE CAN TALK ABOUT TURNING OFF THE ENTIRE SAFETY FEATURE." -- I FELT COMPLETELY DISMISSED. SINCE EARLY 2024 (SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING): • VEHICLE RANDOMLY DISABLES ALL SAFETY FEATURES WHILE I AM DRIVING. YELLOW ICONS APPEAR ON MY DASH, AND DINGING NOISES KEEP ALERTING. THIS HAPPENS ALMOST DAILY! I SHOWED PHOTOS AND VIDEOS TO A SECOND DEALERSHIP, AND SENT THEM TO HYUNDAI CORPORATE (DEC 2024). NO ONE HAS MADE ANY RESOLUTION FOR THIS. • NOTICING MOISTURE BUILD-UP IN WINDOW CREVICES. REAR WINDOWS HAVE ROLLED DOWN WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED OVERNIGHT ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2024: • VEHICLE MAKING HIGH PITCH WHISTLING NOISE. PROBLEM DIAGNOSED AS CRACKED HEATER CONSOLE. SEALED/REPAIRED TWICE, IN TWO DIFFERENT SPOTS. WHY WOULDN'T THEY JUST REPLACE IT?! • HORN NOT WORKING. I WAS UNAWARE UNTIL DEALERSHIP TESTED IT. • REAR DOORS BARELY OPENING. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. PEOPLE NEED TO BE ABLE TO GET OUT (AND IN). BROUGHT VEHICLE IN, WAS TOLD THEY "LUBED IT UP", YET THE DOORS ARE NOT OPENING FULLY AGAIN AS OF DECEMBER 2024-JANUARY 2025. DECEMBER 2024: • CONTACTED CORPORATE TO FILE COMPLAINT. SINCE I FILED IN DECEMBER 2024, WHICH IS 13 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING VEHICLE, I WAS TOLD I DON'T QUALIFY FOR ILLINOIS LEMON LAW BUYBACK OPTION. ONE MONTH TOO LATE?! DANGEROUS AND ANNOYING PROBLEMS, AND I'M STUCK DEALING WITH THIS? MY VEHICLE IS A DEATH TRAP!

Nov 2024 ENGINE I had my oil changed in September at McGovern Hyundai in Leominster, MA. I have the invoice on file and my app that I have with them. I went out of town on [XXX]. At approximately [XXX], I heard a loud pop, saw smoke and immediately pulled over, a large amount of oil came out of the bottom of my car. The car was undrivable and I had to have it towed to the closest Hyundai dealership in North Plainfield, NJ. They provided me with a write up that stated I need a new engine due to the damage. We called McGovern and they are claiming that is isn't their issue and to contact my insurance company or cooperate. The cost right now is over $11,000, $300 for a tow, $200 for an uber driver to my destination where I was going, $223.86 for a diagnostic test, $350 car rental for my parents to come and get me, approximately $100 in gas fees to get me and my dad lost a day of pay. This all happened just a little over 1,000 miles and there is only 14,421 miles on the car. The dealership I bought it from isn't taking responsibility for it and Hyundai has yet to. This happened on a major highway on NJ and I was left on the side of the highway alone for over 2 hours waiting for a tow. This was such a scary and dangerous position to be in. This seems to be an issue with Hyundai cars and they aren't helping. I am now without a car and no one seems to care. Nov 2024 ENGINE I was driving around 34 miles per hour in traffic and my speedometer turned red indicating a problem. I attempted to accelerate in traffic and it made a funny noise and would not speed up. I was able to drive home which was about a mile away. Once I got home I turned the vehicle off and back on and the speedometer was blue again. I took it to the dealer and they advise they could not locate the problem , They put it on a level 3 scope and drove it a lot. Since then it happened as I left home and I stopped the vehicle and started it again which solved the problem. The car has around 3100 miles.I was not at risk because I was in slow traffic and could run about 30 mph during the first event.

Oct 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM My 2024 Hyundai Elantra limited horn stopped working, almost causing someone to hit me. The car only has 4,000 miles on it. I am extremely lucky I did not get in an accident because of this. Extremely dangerous issue and soon further research its a very common problem with some newer Hyundais. There needs to be a recall before some actually gets hurt!

Jul 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER Roughly over a couple weeks, I noticed when pressing on the horn it was NOT responsive when pressing the horn section of the steering wheel, so I took it over to Napleton Hyundai dealership, to take a look at the issue base on what they said, they would have to ordered the part however, it’s on back ordered and would call when it arrives, my issues if the horn is of a safety issue, won’t it be a better quicker response to get the part than get it fix? How many other drivers are having the same issue?

Jun 2024 POWER TRAIN,ENGINE Vehicle shut off 8 times on my wife while driving. Check engine light did come on with a warning from the vehicle stating a possible issue with our Engine Control System. Shortly after, while ON the roadway, at about 35-40 mph, the car completely shut off. Luckily my wife was going to a church and the church men were able to push her car safely, with our kids inside, off the roadway and into the parking lot. Hyundai Roadside Assistance was contacted and vehicle was towed to Matt Bowers Hyundai in Gulfport, MS on June 5th. During a 12 day stint at the dealership, it was determined that the problem was caused by the open safety campaign (Bulletin 206) and the EGR Valve Assembly was replaced. We took back delivery of the vehicle June 18th, 13 days after the tow/problem.

May 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER Yesterday May 26 2024 while my husband was driving he had on the air conditioner in our car. Suddenly the warning light went off that car was overheating. This also happened the day before. He was stopped at a light the 2nd time. The car has less then 7000 miles. We recently had the oil and air filter changed at Hyundai dealership. There was no problems at the time of service a month ago. All fluids were normal and everything seemed fine. I don't know why this happened. I googled 2024 Hyundai Elantra and another customer with EXACT same model is also have this SAME issue.

May 2024 ENGINE New vehicle was recently purchased at Hyundai dealership odometer reading 8 miles only. Four days later while driving the engine turns off and all dashboard lights start flashing vehicle stops completely in the middle of the road I immediately turned-on emergency lights to make the cars behind me aware. Looking on my rear mirror I notice a vehicle wasn't stopping and I was about to get rear ended so I suddenly wave my hand out, thankfully he passed right by me, and all traffic slowly comes to a complete stop. There was no warning lamps, messages or problem prior failure. I took the vehicle back to dealership for service maintenance I was informed no problem was found and it was a onetime thing they guaranteed me it wouldn't happened again and unfortunately it did.
