Dec 2024 VISIBILITY/WIPER The OEM heated windshield has a relatively common defect where there is extreme distortion in the glass along the passenger side edge of the windshield. This is obviously a safety issue because that area is key for visibility of pedestrians and bicyclists and other vehicles when making turns. The vehicle is currently at the dealer pending repair with no updates.

Dec 2024 FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,BACK OVER PREVENTION I was backing my 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 into my very tight driveway very slowly to avoid hitting my other car parked on the street, my house and my neighbors house. The parking collision sensor alerted me that I was close to my other car but I can see out my window that I had room to clear it safely so I continued to back into my driveway at about 1 mile an hour. All of a sudden, my car made a click click noise as it lurched back and forth and then the car took over control and drove into my house about 20-30 feet at maybe 20 mph (not sure exactly but pretty fast) and crashed into my house and my neighbors house/gate. I pumped the brakes 2-3x but they did not work and the car continued driving into my house at that fast speed. I remember thinking omg, the car is not going to stop until it hit the house. No collision sensors went off during the automatic reverse acceleration and no manual nor auto emergency brakes were employed. Even though I pressed the brakes 2-3x, the ring video did not show brake lights (which isn't a surprise since they did not activate). There was a man that just walked his dog behind my car a minute before my car accelerated backwards. He would have been hit at 20mph 2 feet from my car. He is an eye witness to the incident and agreed that this was no way human error. If it were human error and I had accidentally pressed the acceleration pedal, I wouldn't have gone that fast on my super tight driveway and street and I also would have had plenty of time to press the opposite pedal to stop before hitting my own house. I haven't been able to get access to the "black box" yet to see what the car's computer says and haven't reached out to the dealer or VW as my insurance claim is still being processed. My house, my neighbor's gate and my car are badly damaged but am thankful nobody got hurt. I had not seen any indication before that something like this could happen. It was a sunny day, November 23, 2024 12:50pm.

Dec 2024 LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE While driving the vehicles safety features automatically turn off and the screens in the car go blank and then come back on after a few minutes. When we contacted the dealer and the manufacturer we were told there was no fix and to just pull over and restart the car. The dealer told us to treat it like a cell phone that isn’t working and just turn it off and turn it back on.

Dec 2024 STRUCTURE The vehicle’s door handle malfunctioned twice, causing a door to open unexpectedly while driving at normal speeds. Small children were present as passengers during one of these incidents, increasing the risk of injury had the door opened fully or had another driver reacted suddenly to the open door. There were no warning lamps, audible alerts, or error messages before these occurrences. The handles and related components remain installed and could be made available for inspection upon request. Additionally, the dashboard display occasionally goes blank or glitches, making it impossible to read speed, warning indicators, or other critical information while driving. This issue occurs intermittently and does not seem to follow any specific pattern. No visible warning lamps or messages appear before the display malfunctions. These problems have been reported to an authorized dealer, who acknowledged known defects but indicated that no repairs or remedies are currently available. To date, the issues have not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or other third parties, apart from the dealer’s acknowledgment. Without a functioning remedy, these malfunctions continue to present a safety concern, especially with young passengers onboard and limited access to essential driving information due to the dashboard failures.

Dec 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM My ID.4 charging function is not working as it has has in the past: 1. the "plug to charge" function at Electrify America (uses the vehicle VIN to automatically activate the charging session and payment) worked previously and now does not work. I have attempted it at 14 different stations at two different locations of EA today (and it has not been working for the past few charging sessions at EA). 2. charging cable should automatically unlock when charging is complete (it is setup that way in the car and has worked in the past). To release requires pressing the unlock button on the remote 3 times or pull the manual release cord in the trunk of the car. 3. charging rates are abnormally low...about 70 kWh when the car usually charges at 100-160 kWh rate my concern is that the "CP" terminal and/or communications channel is faulty and could cause a serious error in charging rate, voltage or over-charging resulting in a fire or explosion, since that terminal controls those functions as well as "plug to charge". thus far i have not received sufficient response from the manufacturer's dealer on this issue (i do not believe they have the equipment to adequately test the physical connector on the car or the communications data stream).

Dec 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE,BACK OVER PREVENTION The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 24V651000 (Structure) and 24V344000 (Back Over Prevention, Equipment, Electrical System); however, the parts to do the recall repairs were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The dealer was contacted. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH, the vehicle lost power. The main control panel blacked out and the contact was unable to accelerate. The contact coasted to the side of the road and the vehicle regained power and was able to continue driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that a software update was needed; however, update was unavailable. The failure occurred approximately 15 more times while driving at various speeds. There were no warning lights illuminated. Additionally, the front passenger’s door made a clicking sound and slightly opened while driving approximately 30 MPH and had to be manually closed. The contact also stated that the door ajar light illuminated and remained illuminated despite pulling over and properly closing the door. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the software update needed to be performed. The software update was not performed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 4,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

Dec 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE On December 4, 2024, I left a Volkswagen ID.4 electric car in for service of Volkswagen due to software and door locking issues. The service manager confirmed the problems but stated that the vehicle has not yet received any repairs from Volkswagen and that there is no solution available. I have been given ongoing, negligent responses, such as being told that the only option is to buy another car or that there is nothing they can do. 1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The software system and door locking mechanism are malfunctioning. Both issues are related to unrepairable recalls from Volkswagen. The software issues are causing electrical faults, stopping problems, and unsafe braking performance. The door locking issue prevents proper functionality, likely due to a malfunction in the locking system, which also impacts the security and safety of the vehicle. The car is experiencing significant issues related to software, electrical faults, stopping problems, and, most concerning, unsafe brakes. These issues present a serious safety risk. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The brake system has become unsafe due to electrical and software failures, which could result in an inability to stop the vehicle properly or in a timely manner, presenting a significant safety hazard. Additionally, the malfunctioning door locks compromise the vehicle's security, which could lead to unauthorized access. The combination of these issues not only poses a risk to the driver but also to passengers and others on the road, especially if the braking system fails unexpectedly.

Dec 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER From purchase this vehicle’s passenger door/door handle have not function properly. One time the door opened without manipulating the door handle. Too many times to count the door handle is used to open the door, however, the door doesn’t open. The door opening spontaneously is obviously a safety concern. The door not opening when attempting to open it, could also be a safety concern if needing urgent egress. The second issue has been with the electrical system. Greater than five times the monitor and seemingly the entire electrical system goes blank. On two occasions this sent the car to “limp mode “. This is the safety concern due to it occurring in traffic.

Dec 2024 VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE While driving on the freeway at approximately 65 MPH using adaptive cruise control (ACC) the steering column display changed from MPH to kilometers per hour (KPH). See attached photo and description. The change of cruise control setting distracted the driver and caused confusion since the ACC speed setting changed from 65 MPH to 104 KPH. It took a minute for the driver to realize the units of measure caused this change. The dealer has not confirmed this failure, since it is intermittent and has provided not resolution. Several communications to Volkswagen customer service provided no solution.

Nov 2024 STRUCTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE I have a Manufacturer Compliance Recall and a Manufacturer Safety Recall outstanding, neither of which the manufacturer can fix. I have called the dealership multiple times to make an appointment to have them fixed, but they do not yet have the remedies available. I have had multiple problems with this car from the day I got it on November 6, 2023. I get errors that pop up constantly on the screen, but they come and go so quickly while I'm driving that I can barely read them, much less take a photo. One of them says maneuver braking is not available. My screen goes out and flashes constantly, but again, it happens so quickly that I can't get photos while I'm driving. I have tried many times, but I'm not going to risk my safety to get a photo of my failing software. This car has no TPMS sensors, so I never have any idea of the status of my tires or if they're low. The car brakes suddenly, going forward and in reverse, and it has happened going at a high speed on the tollway. It was very scary and thankfully no one was behind me. I have trouble getting the charger out of the port on a regular basis. I have to unlock the vehicle on the fob about 5 times before the charger will come out. When I plug in the charger, it is hit or miss whether it will actually charge. I always have to check it later to see if it actually did. It charges on the first try about 50% of the time, and this car has put me in a bind multiple times when I have a long drive the next day. I believe Volkswagen hired the least competent engineers to build this car. It is the most frighteningly terrible car I've ever driven, and I believe Volkswagen should buy this car back from me at the current market value.

Nov 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,BACK OVER PREVENTION Center display sporadically resets while driving causing loss of speedometer information and loss of rearview camera image and parking sensors. This vehicle fails to comply with regulatory requirements. There is an increase risk of crash or injury when driving or backing up.

Nov 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER 1.What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The screen failed and went completely black while driving. It would not turn on again. The component is still installed in the vehicle and available for inspection upon request. 2.How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? My wife and 1-year-old child were in the car with me on the freeway when the screen failed. This created a dangerous situation that could have led to a serious accident. 3.Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The issue is known to the manufacturer, but there is currently no remedy for it. 4.Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? Yes, the vehicle has been inspected by the dealer, but they are unable to provide a solution at this time. 5.Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No, there were no warning lamps, messages, or symptoms before the failure occurred.

Nov 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER Multiple times over the weekend of 11/16/2024 I attempted to put my vehicle into reverse as normal and the backup camera failed to initiate. I had to restart the car to remedy the situation. This is a different glitch than what I previously experienced with the screens going blank. I have contacted VW about these issues and thus far they have been unwilling to remedy the situation. This issue is a CLEAR safety risk as my son or other children playing in the driveway or street near this car are in danger without a functioning back up camera. In my case I refused to move the car until I was able to get the backup camera to engage. Sometimes this required multiple restarts of the car to stop the glitch.

Nov 2024 POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE So our door handles have not been working to the point where my kids are stuck in the car and they can’t open the door and from the outside we are not able to open the door. We have safety warnings that pop up often then disappear and also we have our screens turn black and take a mom to turn back on. We have called VW corporate and they told us to keep taking it in then we take it for service and they can’t do anything due to them not having a solution to fix these issues because their under recalls and were physically having the issues they can’t do anything. It’s annoying and it’s a huge safety issue for us and our kids!!
