| Dec 2025 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | All 2020 through 2022 Kia Nightfall Edition vehicles (top-trim packages) are experiencing premature and widespread exterior trim fading, indicating a manufacturing or material defect rather than normal wear and tear. This issue is consistent across multiple model years, strongly suggesting a systemic problem with the product used on these vehicles. Despite repeated complaints, Kia has not issued a recall nor provided a permanent remedy. Dealerships are inconsistently addressing the issue and are actively denying or resisting full corrective action, leaving many owners without resolution. When repairs are approved, the only offered solution is replacement with the same defective trim, which predictably fades again—often within one year—demonstrating that the problem is unresolved and ongoing. Kia has provided conflicting and illogical explanations, including claims that the fading is caused by vehicles being washed too frequently or not frequently enough. These explanations are contradictory and inconsistent with proper vehicle use and maintenance. Owners have followed standard care guidelines, yet the defect persists, further reinforcing that this is a product defect, not consumer misuse. This situation places an unreasonable financial burden on consumers, diminishes vehicle value, and undermines consumer trust. More importantly, Kia’s refusal to acknowledge the defect and provide a permanent fix reflects a failure to meet manufacturer responsibility standards. Kia representatives and dealerships have acknowledged the issue but have instructed affected owners to contact NHTSA instead of addressing the root cause. Because: The defect affects multiple model years The failure is predictable and repeatable The manufacturer offers no permanent repair Responsibility is being shifted onto consumers Dealerships are blocking consistent corrective action this issue meets the criteria for federal investigation and recall consideration. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2025 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | My vehicle has a recall that says potential fire could occur yet there’s no solution for the recall. I think that is something that should be replaced immediately considering it’s 15 degrees outside and I have to run my heat in my vehicle. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2025 | POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | While driving from Phoenix to Tucson in midday traffic, the vehicle displayed a "Check Transmission" error message. Immediately following this warning, the vehicle experienced a significant loss of motive power while navigating a busy intersection. The car would not shift gears appropriately to maintain speed or move out of the path of traffic, which created an immediate risk of a collision. I was able to avoid an accident, but the vehicle's inability to accelerate or change gears left me stranded in a hazardous location. Component Failed: Transmission/Transmission Control Module. Safety Risk: The sudden loss of power in an intersection put me and other drivers at risk of a high-speed side-impact or rear-end collision. Warning Symptoms: The "Check Transmission" message appeared moments before the failure. Inspection Status: We have had the recall taken care of on January 25 , 2023 with 8810 miles at Peoria KIA initially. The incident happened on December 6, 2025 and the vehicle was taken to Royal KIA on December 6, 2025 for inspection.". | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2025 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | i want to file a complaint about my recall having no remedy and it’s affecting me. i need kia to buy my car back | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2025 | POWER TRAIN | The contact owns a 2022 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the vehicle failed to accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact restarted the vehicle; however, the failure persisted. The contact called a mobile mechanic to the residence, and the mechanic diagnosed the vehicle with a defect in the transmission. The mechanic informed the contact that there was a recall on the model vehicle related to the transmission. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V760000 (Power Train); which was linked to the failure. The contact called several dealers in the area and was informed that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was provided with the same information as the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 55,000 |
| Dec 2025 | ENGINE | Kia refuses to perform a U.S. safety recall due to my being active duty U.S. military stationed overseas. The affected vehicle is U.S.-spec and registered to a U.S. address. The recall (SC250) involves sudden loss of drive power and is a major safety defect. Kia has refused to authorize parts or repair overseas, putting me and my family at risk. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2025 | STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | On Dec 1, 2025 we were driving down the freeway at approx 70 MPH when we heard a loud bang. At first, we thought a tire had blown but that wasn't the case. We started hearing more road and wind noise from above the shade screen. We were close to our Kia dealership so we went directly there. The sunroof glass about the driver and front passenger seats had a large hole and the glass around it was shattered. No object was found. Additionally, we didn't see any road debris kicked up before the loud bang nor we were near any overpass. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2025 | EXTERIOR LIGHTING | While driving down the road at night, the headlights turn off automatically, by themselves. This caused serious distress for not only myself, but also for my children in the car at the time, as we have had instances where driving around curves at dark, the lights go out, or while on the highway at night during deer season, the lights go out. We live out in the country, so city lights are not abundant. Found on multiple sites once looked up after experiencing it: "100% of the recalled vehicles experience the issue where a software error in the Body Domain Control Unit (BDC) causes the headlights and taillights to momentarily lose power while driving. Kia is now recalling nearly 74,500 Sorento vehicles, including Sorento Hybrid and Sorento Plug-in Hybrid models from the 2024-2025 model years. This issue arises from a logic flaw in the BDC, resulting in the temporary failure of the low-beam headlights and taillights, which poses a significant safety risk for drivers. Kia will provide a free software update to fix the issue" There were no warnings, warning signs, or dashboard lights, so it was very alarming. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2025 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | My vehicle has an active fire-risk safety recall, but Kia states the remedy is not available yet. The recall notice explains that the wiring harness for the HVAC blower motor may be inadequate and can cause a vehicle fire. I am concerned for my safety and my family’s safety because I have small children who ride in this vehicle daily. I contacted my Kia dealership, but they will not provide a rental or alternative transportation and will not confirm whether the vehicle is safe to drive while waiting for the remedy. I am being forced to continue driving a vehicle that may catch fire, and Kia has provided no temporary safety solution. I am requesting NHTSA to review this situation because Kia is not offering any safe option for owners while the recall is unresolved. The recall involves a potential fire inside the vehicle cabin, and yet there is no inspection, workaround, or transportation assistance available. This puts consumers at risk. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2025 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Driving down the freeway and heard a loud explosion and sunroof shattered with glass falling into the car. It was very discontenting and if there were more cars on the freeway overpass at the time it could have caused an accident as I was stunned by what had happened and lowered my speed. This could have easily led to a collision Went to Kia and mechanic inspected roof and said it appeared to have blown outward and was not struck by an object. He further said it was not safe to drive as the small glass pieces could get imbedded in the frame and come loose at a later date and cause harm. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2025 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER,VISIBILITY/WIPER | the rear backup camera brackets inside are broken, causing the camera to dangle down. There was a recall on 2022 kia sorentos for this, but my VIN number is not coming up as part of the recall when it should be. This causes me to not be able to visibly see the things in the rear when the car is in reverse. There are no warning lights, lamps or messages to notify of thus. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2025 | ENGINE | 2022 Kia Sorento X-line SX Premier model (89435 miles) 2.5 l Turbo GDI is going into limp mode when trying to accelerate. The (A) Auto Stop indicator illuminates. Pulled car over, placed in park, turned off, restarted after waiting about a minute, no warning lights, car drives and acceleration is normal. About one year ago, car experienced the same problem, took to dealer for diagnostic troubleshooting, the battery was suspected and replaced, issue persisted, the codes indicated either low pressure or high pressure fuel pumps, the low pressure pump was replaced, after further drive testing by the dealer issue was still present, the high pressure pump was replaced and the issue was resolved. Fuel pumps were replaced under warranty. Kia dealer said that Kia engineering believes the issue is possibly heat related, I live in Phoenix, Az. Summertime temperatures exceed 100 degrees in summer some days exceeding 110 to120 degrees. A month ago September 2025, the car experienced limp mode again this time with check engine light, problem was identified with faulty low pressure fuel pumps gasket which was replaced. The limp mode has been experienced again 5 times in last month, twice today. Ambient Temperature in 80s. This is a significant problem that could lead to a possible accident if the car fails to accelerate properly. My wife is afraid to drive the car until the failure mechanism is identified and is properly repaired. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2025 | ENGINE | The design of the grill on this vehicle is poorly constructed and leads to safety issues. I purchased the vehicle in October 2024 and early January 2025, my husband was driving on the highway when the vehicle stopped. No lights, no warnings, just stopped providing power-while driving at a high speed on the highway. He was able to make it to the side of the road and get home that evening only to find out the radiator was punctured and needing replacement. Just 4 months later the exact same thing happened. The grill has no protection for an essential part of the vehicle. Minor road debris can completely shut down the vehicle, without warning, leading me to believe it is not intended to be on the road with its current design. The dealership has replaced the radiator both times and I’ve reached out to Kia directly. This is not an uncommon issue for this model. Many accounts of this exact same problem on social media and other public forums. Kia is aware this design flaw puts their customers at risk and are doing nothing to prevent it. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2025 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | My check engine light came on and my SUV started sputtering so I pulled over called my Husband who came and had it towed to Langdale Kia of Valdosta, Ga. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2025 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | The contact owns a 2022 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that after coming to a complete stop, while attempting to accelerate, the vehicle failed to immediately respond. Additionally, the “Battery Failure” and check engine warning lights were illuminated in red. The contact scheduled an appointment with the dealer, but the vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 26,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 26,000 |
| Sep 2025 | POWER TRAIN | 2022 Kia Sorento LX started off with rpm acceleration randomly. It progress and started happening multiple times during a ride. Took it to Jake Sweeney Kia dealership, they were not able to pick up on any codes. They said they tried a flight recording and couldn’t record data, but not even 15 minutes off the lot the symptoms proceeded. Now the vehicle is trying to shift gears while in drive. I’ve provided videos and the dealership responded back and said, “After speaking with my manager about this situation I can't really do too much until it becomes a constant issue. I know that isn't what you want to hear but at this time without a check engine light or it happening all the time there isn't much I can accomplish for you.” Not only is this a safety hazard for myself and my child this is negligence on Kia and Jake Sweeney Kia Florence. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2025 | POWER TRAIN | 2022 Kia sorento under 86,000 miles is jerks intermittently but no codes are being shown. Currently at the dealership and tech suspects transmission, which has been reported by numerous consumers of this issue but the recall was only applied to certain Kia sorentos and it should be broader. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2025 | VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL | I am filing this complaint regarding a serious transmission defect in my 2022 Kia Sorento. The vehicle frequently hesitates, stalls, and at times fails to accelerate properly, creating a dangerous situation when driving in traffic, merging, or crossing intersections. This poses a direct safety hazard to me, my passengers, and other drivers on the road. I brought the vehicle to Mark Kia Service in Scottsdale, AZ. The dealership acknowledged that the transmission issue is a known defect in this model. However, they refused to repair the problem unless they could “replicate” the malfunction during their testing. Because the issue is intermittent, it does not always occur on demand, leaving me without any repair or resolution despite the safety risk. This policy effectively forces consumers to continue driving unsafe vehicles. I have already experienced several close calls where the vehicle’s hesitation and lack of response nearly caused an accident. The defect is widely reported among other owners of the 2022 Sorento, yet Kia and its dealerships are failing to provide adequate remedies under warranty. I am submitting this complaint to request an investigation into Kia’s handling of this matter. The failure to repair a known transmission defect, despite documented safety risks, places drivers and the public in harm’s way. A recall or mandatory corrective action should be considered to ensure consumer safety. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2025 | SERVICE BRAKES | Everytime i put my car in cruise control for 1-2 minutes after i take the cruise control off the breakers are gone and them come back | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2025 | POWER TRAIN | While driving my 2022 Kia sorento on the interstate a sudden check engine light illuminated and the car totally stalled out with a severe decrease in power causing me to almost be rear ended by interstate traffic before I could get off the road safely. After taking the vehicle to the dealership for diagnostics I was informed there was a P1C2D03 trouble code which is associated with the 8 speed dual clutch transmission indicating an internal fault in the electric oil pump of the TCU. Upon further investigation we find out this code was associated with a safety recall that went out for this particular Kia model and transmission. The original owner took this car in to have the recall repaired back in 2023 without the fault code showing or any issue presenting from the vehicle. They were simply taking it in to clear the recall they were sent. While it was at the dealership they flashed the system like they were supposed to do according to the campaign instruction and sent them on their way. Fast forward to now and I am getting this same fault that the recall was sent out for but I have the code which according to the campaign instructions Kia was supposed to replace the transmission due to a mfg defect. Kia is refusing to replace the transmission now saying the recall can not be reopened and since I am the second owner and my warranty is expired I will have to pay over $5,000 for a replacement. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2025 | ENGINE | At start up, vehicle’s engine will sometimes have abnormally strong vibrations/shaking, loud noises, and will only produce reduced power (vehicle struggles to accelerate). The check engine light is illuminated when this happens. I am typically able to clear it by shutting off the vehicle one to two times. I have attempted to repair this defect at least 4 times but Kia has been unable to resolve. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2025 | POWER TRAIN,ENGINE | The vehicle will sometimes, after shifting from park to drive, roll backwards if on an incline, even while gassing. If not an incline when this occurs, the vehicle will not move forwards. This typically lasts for a few seconds before the transmission engages. This happens intermittently; the first time it happened to my family member, it almost caused an accident. Kia has attempted to repair this defect three times but has been unsuccessful. During the last repair attempt, the Kia tech told me that they’ve seen multiple vehicles with this issue, and that it is “normal” for Kia. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2025 | ENGINE | The contact owns a 2022 Kia Sorento. The contact stated that while at a stop light, the accelerator pedal was depressed, and the vehicle lost motive power, with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that there was a misfire in cylinder #4. The vehicle was not repaired, and the mechanic referred the contact to the dealer for additional assistance. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with a fuel injector failure. The contact was informed that the fuel injectors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed that the parts need to be ordered to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,880. | Crash: No Fire: No | 70,880 |
| Aug 2025 | FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | I saw the KIA Sorento safety recall #24V-220 for the defective high pressure fuel pump. When I look up my VIN on your site, it doesn't show this affecting my vehicle. Although my vehicle does this exact same thing. It will randomly go into limp mode and not accelerate when pulling into traffic. I took it to the Kia dealer and they said it is the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor and would be $1266 to replace. I believe this is an Increased Crash Risk due to the loss on acceleration when the vehicle converts to limp mode and should be added to the recall you issued under #24V-220. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2025 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Jenkins kia of Ocala Florida sold me this car as a certified used car on July 4 2025 without fixing or disclosing the fact this vehicle has 2 recalls! I want to file a formal complaint with you against this company. This car should never have been sold as a certified used vehicle with these 2 safety recalls not being addressed, fixed or mentioned! | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
