Dec 2022 BACK OVER PREVENTION The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated when he placed the vehicle into reverse(R), the Back Over Prevention systems failed to function as designed. The contact had taken the vehicle back to the dealer where it was purchased and was advised that the vehicle had been allowed to come off the factory line without the needed computer chips to activate the sensors and camera. The contact was told that as soon as the chips were available, he would be notified. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure and provided the contact with a similar explanation. The failure mileage was approximately 6,000.

Nov 2022 SERVICE BRAKES GM is rolling trucks off the production line with a known trailer brake controller fault. This issue causes the truck to lock out the trailer braking function immediately after applying braking with a trailer attached. This causes stopping distance to be dramatically increased resulting in greater risk of an accident. GM needs to correct this issue before loss of life occurs. This seems to be wide spread. https://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=166822&key=85381e43bf444ec4cbd8ddc48e53190b

Nov 2022 SERVICE BRAKES On 11/10/2022 I was driving in moderate to heavy traffic at low speed; approximately twenty (20) mph. I applied the brakes and immediately experienced a hard pedal coupled with some pulsating. I pressed the pedal as hard as I could as there was traffic stopped in front of me. At the same time every warning light illuminated on the dashboard. My truck stopped just short of colliding with the other vehicle in front of me. The message displayed on the dash read “Brake System Failure” followed by a second message which read “Trailer Brake Failure”, and then an additional message that read “Do not exceed 42 mph”. Fortunately there was a Chevy dealership nearby. I drove the vehicle at very low speed to their service department and currently wait a diagnosis. My Chevrolet app also sent me a text at the time of the incident which read “Diagnostic Alert: Service the Antilock Braking System in your 2022 Silverado within 1 day”. My experience is similar to another incident which was reported to your agency in September of this year involving the same model truck. Note: I was not pulling a trailer at the time of the incident.

Nov 2022 UNKNOWN OR OTHER Service Trailer Brake Message with DTC C159C; Upon attaching my RV trailer, the trailer connected to the integrated systems as expected. Went though light inspections. I adjusted trailer brake gain. Upon first drive the message: Trailer Brakes Disabled Service Required. Took vehicle to dealership. They found #PIT5948A from Oct 6th, 2022 stating that engineers are aware of issue for all models using this integrated trailer brake. This is an Urgent issue and critical for those pulling trailers with brakes. This is very dangerous to have trailer brakes disabled when pulling heavy trailers can can result in serious accidents and should be addressed immediately. I've also not seen any communications on this from GM.

Oct 2022 UNKNOWN OR OTHER From day one of purchasing this vehicle the trailer brake controller would stop working after a mile or so while towing either of my two trailers. I brought the truck back to the dealer to get this issue fixed and their service response was "we could not duplicate problem, it must be with your trailer". I have two 10K trailers and both have same issue with my truck. I then went to and Utility Trailer dealer to determine if a new/never used trailer on the lot would duplicate them problem, which it did, proving the issue is not with my trailers, it is with the truck. This issue is a true safety issue because the warning 'brakes disabled' does not show up until you start driving/pulling a trailer. The brake controller message comes up on front display (trailer brakes disabled service required) and this shuts off trailer brakes which is a true safe issue if the vehicle needs stop. I've researched this issue extensively and social media platforms have this same issue reported however to my dismay there are no active or open recalls. I NEED THIS FIXED and I will continue to pursue and raise this issue as it's both dangerous and frustrating that I purchased a very expensive vehicle where I cannot use it as I need to.

Oct 2022 SERVICE BRAKES This vehicle has integrated electric brake system. After hooking up Homesteader Hercules trailer, went through all settings, adjusted brake gain, brakes worked for 1 minute, then alert appeared "trailer brakes disabled" "service trailer brake system". This is an ugent issue; the trailer is a 6x12 dual axle and the electric brakes are essential. The Silverado ZR2 is a heavy truck, but depending on only the truck brakes on wet pavement could be disastrous! The dealership has been notified and will run a diagnostic check on it. But, one of the reasons I purchased this truck is the fact it came with the electric brake control system factory installed. (ZR2 only has 237 miles on it currently)

Oct 2022 ENGINE The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 75-80 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently decelerated to 40 MPH and jerked with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with an engine misfire in cylinder # 4, causing an electrical system failure. The dealer replaced the injector; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer where it was determined that the injector needed to be replaced again. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.

Sep 2022 SERVICE BRAKES As I was driving my vehicle on 9/12 the truck reported a brake system failure and I lost power to my brakes. I was able to pull over at the gas station and call the dealership. They said they couldn’t assist because they didn’t know what the issue was. I called a tow truck and had it towed to the dealer. They had my truck for 8 days and replaced the brake module and gave me back my truck. I noticed that the truck had only moved 1 mile from the time I left it at the dealer. NO ONE TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE prior to giving it back to me. As I was driving home on 9/20 my brakes failed again and I lost power. The dashboard read “Brake system failure “. I called the dealer and this time they towed the vehicle. They said they are replacing the entire master cylinder but I don’t have faith that this will solve the issue. I’ve heard of other Chevy Silverado’s with the same issue at the dealer in Saint cloud and OBT. I’ve reported this to GM HQ and it doesn’t seem like there is a sense of urgency or that they care about the safety concerns I have with this truck… I do not feel safe in that vehicle and need your help. The first file is from 9/12 and the second file is from 9/20. See attached

Sep 2022 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE Truck was less than a month old and one day would not start due to a dead battery. After putting a battery charger on the truck, I got it started. Drove it for a bit and had warnings appear in the cluster saying functions are shutting down to conserve battery power. I then received an e-mail from OnStar indicating their is an issue with the airbags and to have the dealership look at this within 1 day. Truck was brought to the dealership the next day. After almost 2 weeks, a GM engineer had to get involved to diagnose why the Forward Collision module was shorting out which caused the battery to drain. The day after is was allegedly fixed, the light came on again in the cluster. The very next day, the brake pedal went rock hard when I tried starting the truck but could not start it since it appeared the truck did not recognize the brake being pressed on. After about 10 minutes of trying to start the truck, it did start. As far as earlier stated about the airbag warning, the dealership said it was a glitch in OnStar trying to do an update which may have shorted out the Forward Collision module. Well, the truck is in for repair again for the same problem. In addition, the truck will lock randomly with the key fob inside the truck. This even happened at the dealership when the service advisor was checking my truck in the first time. I truly believe there is a serious electrical issue going on with this truck and feel unsafe driving it not knowing what might shut down, not work, air bags being deployed for no reason, or not being able to avoid a collision.

Aug 2022 POWER TRAIN While driving at highway speed and winding the engine up to pass, the entire truck shudders and it feels as if the transmission slips. The vehicle does not accelerate normally and it feels as if the transmission has issues finding the passing gear. After passing and letting off the gas it continues to shudder for a while until you reach a steady speed. Occurs with or without a load. When loaded with weight in bed (such as a load of firewood) and/or towing a trailer the shudder/vibration and slipping feeling are more pronounced when just passengers are in the vehicle. Vehicle has about 3000 miles and the issue is occurring more frequently. started at about 2.5 k miles or so. Dealer was unable to duplicate on my first service call. I will take it back again when it happens.

The husband crashed into the rear end of the vehicle. The contact's vehicle had damage to the front bumper which was crushed following contact with the other vehicle's bumper and trailer hitch. The other vehicle suffered light scratch damage to the trailer hitch and bumper. The contact stated that the collision avoidance light was illuminated. Apr 2022 POWER TRAIN Since new delivery, transmission appears to slip into neutral when vehicle is first started and accelerated forward. Was advised by Chevrolet service that this is a known issue, and that GM is aware of the issue, but nothing can be done about it. Other than annoying, if a quicker move forward is required, the vehicle accelerates in neutral then grabs, causing the vehicle to slip on wet pavement, which could lead to a loss of control.
