| Jun 2024 | SERVICE BRAKES | The other day I was slowing down on an off-ramp and all the sudden had no brakes, or at least no power brakes for maybe 30 feet and then all of the sudden power assist came back and slammed hard on the brakes. If there would have been a car at the stop sign I would have rear ended them. Pavement was dry, No ABS light, no codes, everything has been normal since then. I have noticed that the electronic brake booster on this truck "cycles" every few brake applications resulting in inconsistent braking power, which is especially noticeable at low speeds. I have been told this is normal for these trucks. Has not been inspected by anyone as I cannot replicate the issue. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2024 | FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | The truck has been jumping/idling oddly & after getting gas, is very difficult to restart. Our mechanic said the fuel pump is bad & that it was recalled, but when I contacted the dealership, they are claiming it is not covered under the recall. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jan 2024 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Whenever I’m driving my truck before it hits 40 miles it shakes bad but then when it passes 40 miles it stops and drives like if there’s nothing wrong with it | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2023 | SERVICE BRAKES | The rear brake pads are locking.I had to towed the truck to the dealer this week.I’m afraid that while driving on the highway the brakes lock.yes, but the problem has not been resolved yet.no it hasn’t been checked by the manufacturer No warning lights has come on the brakes are locking up while the truck is parked in my garage. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2023 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE | the person run away, she left, i took a pic of the car and vin problale she left because doesnt have DL | Crash: Yes Fire: No Injuries: 2 Medical attention | Unknown |
| May 2023 | VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | While traveling with cruise set at 62mph and a truck was in the right turn lane the automatic collision went off and hard brake when nothing was in front of the truck this has happen also with out cruise control on pulling up to a stop light and being first person no other vehicle was on the road I also don't have forward collision turned on or lane departure | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2023 | POWER TRAIN | While driving my Tacoma truck it has gone into "limp mode" (looses power and you can get but about 25mph) when I have pulled out into traffic 5 times over the last 3 years. I took it to a Toyota dealership on 4/28/2023 for evaluation but no codes where found to indicate a problem. When the truck goes into limp mode I pull over and cut the engine off. I immediately turn the engine back on and the truck operates normally. I know this is a protective system but if you are pulling out into traffic and the truck goes into limp mode for no good reason, it could result in an accident. In addition, the trucks computer system is not registering the event. I haven't noticed any warning lamps, messages prior to the failure. I did notice that the truck shuck prior to going into limp mode. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2023 | AIR BAGS | Was driving doing 35mph and some one ran stop sign T boned Car who ran stop sign my air bags didn't deploy all air bags of other car deployed. My car was totaled . None of the air bags deployed according to recall my vin is not in takata recall. I was tosses all over car | Crash: Yes Fire: No Injuries: 2 Towed | Unknown |
| Feb 2023 | AIR BAGS | The contact owns a 2020 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while driving 50 mph in the morning and in heavy fog, she was unable to visibly see the road which caused her to impact a stationed vehicle in the middle of the road. The contact stated the vehicle was stationed due to a prior crash incident. The contact stated she steered to the right and ended up in a ditch. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. No air bags deployed. The contact stated she thinks she hit her head on the front windshield since it was fractured. The contact stated she sustained a concussion and has bruises on her right chest and right arm. The contact sought medical attention at a near hospital. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to a towing lot. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000. | Crash: Yes Fire: No Injuries: 1 Towed Medical attention | 45,000 |
| Jan 2023 | EXTERIOR LIGHTING,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | The issue is that I and as well as many others live in cold winter climates. LED headlights do not put off the heat required to keep snow and ice off of them. This is a hazardous and accident causing issue when you can not see any longer. Getting out of the vehicle every few miles poses a hazard in it's own that you are pulling over on a roadway to clear the headlights. I don't feel the manufacturers thought this through and is getting worse that most newer vehicles & all electrical vehicles have LED lighting. There needs to be a heater system or film/built in heat source for the lens.... Also the front sensor for collision detection will freeze over or become snow covered. Thus the vehicle turning it off. Seems it is most needed during this weather condition??? | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2022 | FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | The truck has died while driving two separate times. It seems that the problem is the fuel pump, just like we now know have been recalled by Toyota in this model and others. The symptoms are exactly what have been reported by people experiencing faulty fuel pumps that are covered by the recall. My truck is not currently covered by the recall and toyota is refusing to replace the fuel pump, saying that they can’t duplicate the problem after having the vehicle for a week. No resolution has been offered. Just, “Sorry we can’t make it fail and we can’t replace it.” I have spoken with toyota corporate and got the same response. The company is not doing the right thing with this problem, as evidenced by the class action lawsuit ongoing. A major disappointment to say the least. I’m getting absolutely no help from dealer or manufacturer on a major safety issue on a vehicle in its power train warranty period on a known issue. Not even a loaner car. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Aug 2022 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The contact owns a 2020 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while driving 79 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed; however, no cause for the failure was found. The contact stated that an unknown software update was performed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 48,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 48,000 |
| May 2022 | TIRES | Tire failed. The tire is not in my possession anymore. The tire was replaced by America's Tire. I had purchased a tire warranty. Tire failed while traveling at 65 MPH in lane 2 of Interstate 5 northbound at the 5/405 split at approximately 12:35 pm. The traffic was moderate. My vehicle was difficult to control and the noise very loud. The tire pressure warning light did come on. P 265 / 65 R17 1127 SL BSW DOT Code: 1APLV00VX4721 | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2022 | FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | My wife was backing up in our driveway, and hit another vehicle parked in our driveway. The backup pre-collision system did not issue any warning, and did not stop the vehicle (as it is supposed to do). | Crash: Yes Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2022 | ENGINE | The contact owns a 2020 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that while driving at 60 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently stalled temporarily. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact was able to continue to drive the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred for a second time while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that no issues were found; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not provide any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 5,000 |
| Jan 2022 | WHEELS | I recently changed tires from the factory originals. While tightening the lug nuts 4 wheel studs sheared off while tightening (2 on passenger front tire and 2 on passenger rear tire). In light of this issue I decided to replace all 12 wheel studs on the affected tires. The 8 remaining wheel studs that were still intact all had evidence of thread stretch visible to the naked eye. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2021 | SEAT BELTS | A child infant passenger car seat was placed in the rear passenger center seat position. The the shoulder/lap-belt was used to install the car seat rear-facing. Once the install was complete. The shoulder belt was slowly pulled and extended all the way out. The purpose was to have the shoulder belt reach its maxed length. This would position the belt to be placed into retracting mode only. This would prevent the child or an infant to possibly extend the belt once its been retracted. This would minimize the free play with the belt such as being tangled with child's arm, head, body parts, and potentially becoming a choking hazard. The issue now, is the shoulder/lap-belt retracting mechanism is malfunctioning. The shoulder/lap belt is not retracting. Rather it is stuck and now the entire shoulder/lap belt is extended all the way out. There is no resistance in the seat-belt and cannot will not secure a rear passenger in the center seat position. The rear center seat does not have a working safety car passenger safety belt. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2021 | SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC | The contact leased a 2020 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that after driving the vehicle off the dealer parking lot, the brakes would pulsate upon depression without warning. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer on four separate occasions and had the brake drums replaced each time; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified, and the contact was informed that a service representative would contact him. The contact had not yet heard from the manufacturer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 1. The VIN was not available. | Crash: No Fire: No | 1 |
| Sep 2021 | VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL | The contact owns a 2020 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while driving approximately 80 MPH, the brakes activated independent of the driver input and the vehicle slowed to 60 MPH abruptly. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be inspected. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 20,000 |
| Jun 2021 | POWER TRAIN,ENGINE | The contact owns a 2020 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while driving up a hill and whenever the accelerator pedal was released, the vehicle started to roll backward. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed however, the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. Upon picking up the vehicle, the contact stated that the failure recurred while driving up a hill. The contact then took the vehicle back to the dealer where it was diagnosed with the engine not getting enough oil causing the vehicle to stall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 7,800. | Crash: No Fire: No | 7,800 |
| Apr 2021 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2020 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE QI CHARGER PAD WAS EXTREMELY HOT WHILE CHARGING HIS PHONE. THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TOYOTA OF GASTONIA (4821 WILKINSON BLVD, GASTONIA, NC 28056) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE QI CHARGING PAD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 5,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 5,000 |
| Apr 2021 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | 2020 TOYOTA TACOMA TRD SPORT, SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE SEEMS TO LOOSE POWER WHEN DOWN SHIFTING WHILE ACCELERATING (GOING AROUND A CORNER). THE TRUCK ALSO SEEMS LIKE ITS HUNTING FOR A GEAR AROUND THE 35MPH OR 43 MPH, ON FLAT SURFACE, GOING DOWN HILL, OR GOING UP HILL. THIS ALSO HAPPENS ON THE INTERSTATE WHILE GOING 65-70MPH, WHICH WOULD BE CAUSE FOR CONCERN. THIS FEELS LIKE ITS A TRANSMISSION ISSUE BUT ALSO COULD BE AN ENGINE MISFIRE OF A SPARK PLUG OR SOMETHING. THIS HAPPENS ON A DAILY BASIS. DOES ALSO FEEL JERKY AT TIMES. | Crash: No Fire: No | 8,500 |
| Apr 2021 | STRUCTURE,VISIBILITY/WIPER | HOOD VIBRATES ARE HIGHER SPEEDS REFLECTING SUN CREATING A FLASH/STROBE LIGHT TYPE EFFECT BLINDING DRIVER. | Crash: No Fire: No | 15,500 |

| Mar 2021 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | IN LATE NOVEMBER OR EARLY DECEMBER OF 2020, I HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEAR. I CYCLED THROUGH SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES (500+) THINKING IT MAY HAVE BEEN A LOOSE GAS CAP ISSUE THAT NEEDED TIME TO SORT ITSELF OUT. THE LIGHT DID NOT RESOLVE ITSELF AND I VISITED THE CLOSEST DEALERSHIP, AUTONATION TOYOTA, IN TEMPE. I WAS SURPRISED TO LEARN THAT THERE WAS DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE WIRING HARNESS CAUSED BY RODENTS. MANY MANUFACTURERS, INCLUDING TOYOTA, HAVE SWITCHED TO SOY-BASED WIRING INSULATION WHICH IS ATTRACTIVE TO RODENTS. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE POINTED AT 1-2 OTHER VEHICLES (ALL NEW) THAT WERE IN THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND SAID THEY'VE HAD AN INCREASING AMOUNT OF VEHICLES IN FOR THIS ISSUE. MY VEHICLE WAS 7 MONTHS OLD AT THIS POINT WITH 6840 MILES ON IT. THE WIRING HARNESS PART WAS A SPECIAL ORDER PART AND THAT COST ALONE WAS $1431.79. ADD IN THE ESTIMATED 20 HOURS OF LABOR AND THE "FIX" WOULD BE $4592.61 AT THAT DEALERSHIP. I ASKED IF IT WOULD BE OK IF I CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WHILE WE EXPLORED OUR OPTIONS WITH AN INSURANCE CLAIM. I WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE COULD EXPERIENCE A SUDDEN LOSS OF ACCELERATION AND CAUSE A CRASH. WE WERE ABLE TO INITIATE A NO FAULT CLAIM WITH OUR INSURANCE COMPANY, BUT HAD TO PAY A $500 DEDUCTIBLE AS TOYOTA WOULD NOT WARRANTY THIS ISSUE CAUSED BY THEIR SOY-BASED WIRING INSULATION. WORK WAS COMPLETED AT THE LEASING TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, NOT AUTONATION. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS SOY-BASED WIRING INSULATION ISSUE. NOT ONLY IS THIS TYPE OF WIRING MANUFACTURING ATTRACTIVE TO RODENTS, THUS CAUSING DAMAGE THAT CAN RESULT IN DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS, BUT THE WIRING ALSO DETERIORATES AT A MUCH HIGHER RATE IN HIGHER TEMPERATURES. (WE HAD A BMW 550 WITH SOY BASED WIRING THAT WAS DISINTEGRATING IN THE HEADLIGHT HOUSING.) MANUFACTURERS NEED TO STOP PRODUCING SOY BASED WIRING INSULATION OR IMPROVE IT TO REPEL RODENTS. | Crash: No Fire: No | 6,200 |
