| Date | Component | Summary | Severity | Mileage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dec 2023 | ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,ENGINE | The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced excessive oil consumption and while operating the vehicle at lower RPM a rattling and pinging sound was coming from the engine compartment. Additionally, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 75,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 75,000 |
| Dec 2023 | FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | Noticed significant gasoline leak under fuel tank when the engine was running. From the ground, looked up and saw that fuel was leaking from a black fuel hose originating at the top of fuel tank and directed going toward the engine. The fuel hose had dropped below the top of the truck frame and chaffed against a frame mounting point wearing a hole in the hose. Suspect the hose was manufactured to long allowing the droop, or was installed incorrectly (not clamped to prevent droop), or the hose installation was just defective as the hose is to long and a clamp was not part of the vehicle design. My truck has about 23,500 miles and has only been operated on paved roads and used for either commuting or carrying light household loads. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2023 | POWER TRAIN | My Vehicle has 60,000 miles on it and my transmission slips and loses power between gears 3-6 when speeding up to get on the highway / merge. I have nearly gotten into countless accidents because of this problem. I have brought it to my local Ford Dealership’s attention 3 separate times now and they have offered me “software updates” that do not fix the problem. This is a major safety concern of mine and I have 4 years of payments left on this truck that will probably kill me one day in southwest Florida traffic. Ford continues to ignore the problem that everyone I know has with the 10 speed transmission and something needs to be done. It is criminal on their part knowingly ignoring us all | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2023 | SEAT BELTS | I have inflatable seat belts on the rear seats. The buckles fall down into the seat making it difficult to fasten the seat belts. They were replaced under warranty for this concern. After a week they started to fall into the seat again. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2023 | POWER TRAIN | My truck was purchased new and has 43900 miles on it. I have had the vehicle into the dealer once already for the rear end/ transmission slipping. The dealer stated they “ completed a computer update “ and the problem was fixed. The update seemed to help a little, however six months later……issue seems to have returned and I’m seriously thinking there is a defective transmission installed on all the 2020 F150 crew cabs with the 2.7 liter engine. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2023 | POWER TRAIN | The transmission failed and the vehicle completely shut down while I was driving down a 70 mph road. My safety and the safety of others was put at risk because my vehicle significantly decelerated on a 70 mph highway when the transmission failed. The dealer confirmed that the 3rd gear of the transmission is destroyed and then transmission needs to be replaced. The manufacturer has reviewed the dealer's findings and confirmed the transmission will need to be replaced. The light on the dashboard came on as the transmission was failing (maybe 5-10 seconds before the deceleration). Prior to that, I had no warning signs whatsoever other than some harder than normal shifting from time to time. I know the manufacturer has had significant issues with the 10-speed transmissions like the one in my vehicle. It is only a matter of time until the transmission on someone's vehicle gives out at the wrong time and someone is seriously injured or killed. Given the number of reported issues, it is time for the manufacturer to recall this part or extend warranty coverage for issues that may arise. It is a design defect with the transmission. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Not really a safety issue, but Ford is aware there is a problem with their 10-speed transmissions. When we went in to ask them a question; they TOLD US what we were experiencing, before we could tell them. Ford has a 3 step process to fix. The repair staff told us that the 1st fix never works. The second fix may work. The 3rd fix is another transmission with the SAME possible problem. They have completed the 1st step; but they want the truck for weeks, without a loaner, to see if they can "duplicate" the problem. Clunking and shaking when it shifts. We know they have had "service memos" in regard to the trannies; but why should the consumer be put out if they know there is a problem? | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE | I've owned this F150 truck since 2020, purchasing it on Memorial Day. However, every year, I've experienced two to three instances where the car suddenly cuts off in the middle of a traffic light, accompanied by a yellow warning sign on the screen. I suspect it has something to do with the Auto Start-Stop technology. The most recent incident (1 month ago) while I was driving toward a traffic light direction that was turning red. I gradually slowed down until I came to a complete stop. When I lifted my foot off the brake pedal, the car simply shut off. This issue has become increasingly concerning, especially since it can occur in unpredictable situations. I'm hoping someone can provide some insight into the cause of this problem and suggest a solution. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | WHEELS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER | Vehicle trying to shift into4wd while driving causing front bearing to fail Front bearing and 4wd switch changed twice | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Nov 2023 | VISIBILITY | The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, the sunroof glass exploded. There were no reported injuries. The contact called another local dealer, Jerry's Auto Sales of Lennox (27786 SD-17), Lennox, SD 57039, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 57,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 57,000 |
| Oct 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | The computer system would set off all the alarms and shut down truck. Yes i think it can be inspected. My safety was at risk when truck would shut down traveling down the road at highway speeds and losing power brakes, power steering overall control, and this would happen when raining and wet slushy conditions on the road way. Yes No not to my knowledge. Yes all the alarms would go off and a second later vehicle would shut down. It was always during wet conditions, sometimes alarms would all go off and truck would stay running i would pull over to side of road and alarms would go away i believe after drying out? | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2023 | POWER TRAIN | Unable to accelerate vehicle while driving on the freeway. The vehicle began making clucking sounds and jerking when trying to accelerate. You could feel vehicle shift harshly and was struggling to shift. While trying to merge onto the expressway, this became extremely dangerous when I was unable to accelerate. I was able to exit freeway and the problem stopped. A couple of weeks later while driving on the freeway the issue occurred again this time for a longer period of time, unable to accelerate another driver on the freeway flagged us down to inform us that smoke was coming out of the vehicle. We were not able to see or smell any smoke while inside of the vehicle. We were able to exit the freeway pullover and had the car towed to the Ford dealership. we are currently waiting for more information. This was extremely scary and could’ve been much worse. Luckily we were able to get off freeway and exit the truck. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,LANE DEPARTURE | The plastic housing for the rear tail light cracked without any accident or stress and water intrusion occurred resulting in a blown sensor module that in turn caused massive issues with how the truck ran. Electrical components would not function including safety features like airbags and windows. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2023 | POWER TRAIN | The automatic transmission jumps and tries to go forward when the truck is started. Even though it is still in park. I’m afraid that it will actually go forward and hit something or someone. My investigation online has found a lot of complaints regarding the 10 speed automatic transmission in this vehicle. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Oct 2023 | ENGINE | The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated that after changing the oil every 5,000 miles, the vehicle needs two quarts of oil from the ten quarts already added. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of oil. There was no warning light illuminated. The local dealer was not able to provide a repair. Contatc recived same information from another Ford dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed but not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 20,451 | Crash: No Fire: No | 20,451 |
| Oct 2023 | ENGINE | As I was crossing the Rockies in July of 2021on I-70, my engine lost power and I was unable to drive it any further. | Sep 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | Park brake limited function. Service required. Says my brake light is on. Drains my battery. Is this the same Recall for 2021 & 2022?? | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2023 | VISIBILITY | The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V250000 (Visibility) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2023 | ENGINE | Cam shaft error codes came up and I took to the dealership. They said the cam shafts needed to be replaced and engine inspected for damage. I have attached an image of the invoice. I have seen that a lot of F150s are having cam shaft failure, so I think it is a large issue with their design. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2023 | ENGINE | The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated that after changing the oil after 5,000 miles, the vehicle had three quarts of oil remaining out of the eight quarts added. | Sep 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | Reporting this same incident type again. My truck continues to sporadically shutoff while operating the vehicle. My truck has shutoff while driving twice in the past 2 months. Under normal driving conditions I can be driving and suddenly the engine will shutoff and I lose all power and power steering. The latest episode I was turning right with traffic approaching behind with my kids in the truck as well. The error on the dash is the same every time “Auto StartStop Manual Restart Required”. I have to come to a complete stop and put the truck in park to be able to restart. Having to stop on a very busy road to restart is a major safety issue and I believe this truck will end up hurting myself or others. I have had the truck into ford more than once and they claim there is no problem even though I show pictures and video. I contacted ford directly again and they really don’t seem to care very much, from what I can tell they refuse to acknowledge I have a problem with the truck. Please help me. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Sep 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated that rodents and squirrels had eaten the wiring on multiple occasions. The ABS, cruise control, parking, and traction control warning lights illuminated and became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the wiring had been chewed on and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the ABS, cruise control, parking, and traction control warning lights illuminated. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 19,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 19,000 |
| Sep 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The ford sync 3 freezes and asks to check for updates. When it checks for updates it states your vehicle is up to date. The sync 3 freezes and all it functions crash. This affects all things the sync controls including the back up camera, navigation, and radio. This has been reported on numerous forums and ford doesn’t have a fix. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |

| Sep 2023 | POWER TRAIN | When entering the passing gear, or automatically downshifting, the transmission shifts very rough. A sudden jerk. I’ve asked at the Ford dealership, but they say there is no recall on this. Another friend with an older model F150 experienced the same thing. The sudden jerk affects the stability of driving the vehicle. Especially when driving using cruise control. It does not feel safe. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
