Jul 2024 POWER TRAIN Defective coolant bypass valve. Defective valve can cause total engine failure and mechanical failure leading to accident or injury up to and including death. Has been confirmed by service center. Engine service required light is on and will not go off there was no warnings of any issues prior to the light turning on. This is an expensive out of pocket fix in upwards of $1000.00

Jul 2024 ENGINE My engine maintenance light will not shut off due to a engine coolant bypass valve circuit short to battery. I also have warm fluid dripping on my feet when ac is on. The dealer says water under the dash is from from recalled roof rails. There has been a recall for code that pops up on my mechanic Toyota number20TA04. Dealer says he does haven't code so toyota hasnt issued any issues or re all for engine bypass valve. Toyota now has a class action law suit for this part. I can't afford $700 repair, can't see the messages or my speed due to the engine maintenance required on my screen which can't be reset. This is dangerous and can cause the need to have engine replaced, start engine fires. Toyota has known this issue for 5 yrs and needs to be held accountable.

Jul 2024 ENGINE Coolant Bypass Valve Failure Engine Maintenance Required: See Dealer message appears on the drive screen when driving and you can't remove it- which means you can't see your digital speed or what you are setting your cruise at. The failure of this valve will cause the car to overheat which will lead to radiator/engine damage if not taken care of immediately. This part needs to be recalled!!!! RECALL THE TOYOTA COOLANT BYPASS VALVE! It is a faulty part that is failing in all 2019-2020 Toyota models. Mine is a 2019 RAV4. The part is plastic and is failing across the board. It Is costing $996.00 to have this problem diagnosed and fixed so I can drive my car again. I am a teacher and this is a substantial amount of money for a plastic part that should have never been used in the first place. Toyota needs to be held responsible for its cheap and faulty parts. I didn't know if I was going to make it to the dealership or not.

Jul 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER THE CENTRAL ENTERTAINMENT TOUCH SCREEN /DISPLAY HAS NOT BEEN WORKING AT ALL. CARPLAY AND CHARGING DOES NOT WORK AT ALL AS DISPLAY IS NOT WORKING. SPEAKER SETTINGS AS WELL AS GAS MILEAGE INFO CAN NOT BE ACCESSED AS IT DISPLAYS NOT WORKING OR NOT RESPONSIVE. I TRIEDTO CHECK WITH TOYOTA DEALERSHIP HERE IN LOUISIANA AND THEY ARE SAYING THAT IT IS OUTSIDE WARRANTY AND HAVE TO PAY 1500 DOLLARS TO CHANGE THE RADIO AND THE DISPLAY COMPLETELY. TO ME PERSONALLY IT LOOKS LIKE A SOFTWARE ISSUE RATHER THAN A HARDWARE PROBLEM. HOPE IT HAS A SIMPLE FIX. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE SO THAT OTHER DRIVER'S DO NOT ENCOUNTER THIS PROBLEM WHILE DRIVING AND GET INTO A LIFE-THREATENING ACCIDENT. APPRECIATE YOUR HELP.

Jul 2024 ENGINE Known issue and reported by many others. Coolant bypass valve needs to be replaced around 30,000 to 50,000 miles. Occurs when turning on AC. Engine maintenance required sign pops up and cannot remove which does not allow driver to see speedometer leading to unsafe driving speeds.

Jul 2024 ENGINE A “Engine Maintenance Required” notification came up on dash boards. When car was taken to dealership and a diagnosis was made they stated that the engine coolant bypass valve was damaged and needed to be replaced. Upon research online it appears that Toyota would be recalling over 44,000 vehicles of the makes RAV4 and Corolla ranging from the manufacturer years 2019-2023. The issue with these vehicles states that potential of a crack forming in the engine, a result of a manufacturing error. Coolant or oil could leak from the crack, leading to the engine stalling, overheating, or possibly catching fire. This issue can be found within several articles. The dealership is wanting me to pay $787+ tax for an issue that appears to be a manufactured issue which later I may not be refunded.

Jul 2024 ENGINE Coolant Bypass Valve Defect. Toyota sold me a 2019 RAV 4 knowing there are problems with coolant bypass valve. Toyota RAV4s and Corollas is “insufficiently manufactured and/or designed” as it can crack and leak coolant. Once a leak begins, the coolant comes into contact with an electrical connector near the valve and corrodes and damages the component, the filing says. Once this occurs, a vehicle’s engine can no longer communicate with the coolant bypass valve during operation, the suit states.

Jul 2024 ENGINE A message popped up on my dash "Engine Maintenance Required - See Dealer". After further research this is a known issue with the Toyota Rav4s. The coolant bypass valve gets stuck open/closed. I took it into Toyota and before they even looked under my hood, he read the message on the dash and said "I know what it is". After paying $742.16, it was fixed. My local mechanic was not aware of this issue, so I had to go through Toyota directly. If someone cannot afford $700-$1,000 repair, they risk their engine overheating. Toyota is aware of this issue and they have not recalled this part in their vehicles that is consistently failing.

Jul 2024 FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM I was told on 6/28/2024 that my car needs a new coolant bypass valve at a cost of 900.00 on researching this I see there is a class action suit against Toyota because there are so many people with this problem and it should be a recall. Not sure where to go from here .

Jun 2024 FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM My RAV4 does not hold a full tank of gas. It only allows half a tank get full of gasoline. Toyota says they don't know how to fix, as well as two other shops I have brought it to. There are no engine messages or any other signs of issues. Gas will gush out of the tank when filling up if I do not stop at half way.

Jun 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER I own a 2019 Toyota RAV 4. After realizing that my liftgate does not close properly I discovered that the hinges are cracked resulting in issues with opening and closing the tailgate and causing a misalignment when the door finally shuts. In further researching I have discovered there are hundreds of vehicles affected and owners impacted by this manufacturer defect. Toyota fails to take any action despite having an extended warranty. I fully believe this should be a recall issue with full responsibility on the vehicle manufacturer for installing faulty parts.

Jun 2024 ENGINE my Toyota RAV4 2019, At around 44500 miles a messaged started to showing up, message was "Engine Maintenance Required" "Visit your Dealer", the message cannot be disregarded, it blocked important part of the dashboard. No other warning light or failure lights were on. Upon taking the vehicle to the Dealer, agent mentioned it could be a non reseted counter for the regular 5000 miles next service reminder, however such maintenance wasn't due, after check by additional person, technician and scan, it turned out to be the bypass valve sticking, code found P268115 and suggested repair for around $900, since vehicle is no longer under the limited warranty cost would have to be covered by the client. Agent told has to be done other wise cooling system for the engine could be at fault causing overheating, and ended up on a mayor engine failure by overheating. It doesn't seem to be a normal failure found on the users manual, hence could be a possible manufacturing fault which Toyota is not covering.

Jun 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER My issued started as a persistent warning light that the vehicle needs to be taken to dealer. They informed me that the the Engine Coolant Bypass Valve was malfunctioning. This problem is so common that the service writer was able to diagnose it within 10 seconds of hearing the symptoms. Apparently these parts are used in the RAV4, the corolla and some Camry’s 2019-2021. These aren’t even a question of if they will break but how soon (sometimes as early as 20,000 miles). My car has 38,036 miles on it. It is very low mileage and driven conservatively. The safety issue is that this repair is to put the same faulty part in, which costs just shy of $900, only to have the same issue reoccur in another 20-30k miles. It is tempting to continue to drive the car without making the repair, as it is costly and frustrating, yet it is not safe so the repair must be done. This is such a widespread problem in these cars, that there is no doubt that some drivers just cannot afford the expense and are continuing to operate their vehicles, regardless of safety. I believe this should be a recall or at the least a warranty enhancement to the parts as they become faulty, so that until Toyota has a better fix, it is no fault of the driver and not an unexpected expense to cover to drive their fairly new vehicle, which they didn’t expect to have to need costly repairs so soon. This is an issue inherent in either the poor design or the poor manufacturing which forces the drivers to put safety in competition with their financil

Jun 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SUV showed on the display that there was a Hybrid System Malfunction. SUV is in a Toyota dealership shop in Aberdeen, WA. I called the shop immediately when the notification came up. Was advised that it was OK to drive until check engine light came on, which it didn't. I only drove to work amd back after the notification and call to shop. The cruise control would turn off and I'd be notified on the screen. Again was told ok to drive until check engine light came on. Approx a week after calling shop, SUV would not start before going to work. Had to be towed to shop. Potential safety issue if this happened while driving on highway or while in a rural/wooded/off main road area with no cell phone service. I was told my the shop that another SUV had recently had the same issue. Shop says that the wiring harness is exposed to the elements as built by Toyota. Has not been inspected by anyone but the Toyota dealership service dept. No warning ahead of time, just a notification while driving that there was a Hybrid System Malfunction amd then a Cruise Control Malfunction.

Jun 2024 ENGINE An “Engine Maintenance Required” signal came on my dash and turns out the coolant bypass valve needs to be replaced. Come to find out almost everyone else with this car has the same problem around 50,000 miles. I bought this car used and have had it for less than a week and the repair is at least $600. Super disappointed.

Jun 2024 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM My rear backup camera has intermittently worked for almost 2 years now. I was not included in the recall Toyota K05 / NHTSA campaign number 19V576, but I do believe I should be included as the issue describes the issue I have been having. Dealer advised me I need a new camera but the camera works from time to time. The dealer could not replicate my issue in Oct 2023. I’m still having the issue and it has gotten worse.

Jun 2024 UNKNOWN OR OTHER Vehicle has been releasing a chemical odor when engine is started. At 36,000 miles the Engine Maintenance Requird light alerted driver to have vehicle checked. Diagnostic indicated the Coolant Bypass Valve was needing replacement. Cost for repair $760 + tax. Part for repair is priced at less than $100 at local car parts store but repair must be done at dealership to maintain powertrain warranty. POV: Excessive price for a part that should not be failing at 36,000 miles. Driver advised to not drive vehicle for safety reasons.

Jun 2024 ENGINE I got a check engine light p2681 for coolant bypass valve open. I have a scanner and I work for Lithia Dodge of Billings, MT. Upon some research online, many more people all have the same part going bad because of the same defective part going bad. Dealers are charging anywhere between $600-$900 to fix this defect. With so many defective valves going bad across the United States, this should be a recall.
