| Jul 2026 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | 2019 Toyota Camry with UA80 8-speed automatic transmission experienced complete transmission failure. Vehicle was diagnosed by a mechanic confirming transmission failure. Toyota was contacted for goodwill assistance under case number 260701001190. Toyota has missed multiple promised supervisor callbacks and has not resolved the matter. This transmission is currently the subject of three federal class action lawsuits alleging Toyota knowingly sold vehicles with defective UA80 transmissions prone to premature failure due to heat buildup and defective software programming. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2026 | POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE | My vehicle completely lost power and stalled on the freeway, requiring a tow. A Toyota dealership has diagnosed it with a total internal failure of the UA80 transmission and quoted me $9,000. This vehicle has been properly maintained, including a documented transmission fluid service at a Toyota facility in March of this year. A modern powertrain should not suffer a life-threatening failure at 130,000 miles. Because of this severe safety defect and my documented maintenance history, I am requesting a Corporate Goodwill Accommodation to cover or significantly cost-share this replacement. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jul 2026 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | While Driving on the 110 north freeway, glass panaramic roof glass shattered randomly. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2026 | POWER TRAIN | Vehicle has 75,000 original miles. At around 73,000 miles, I began to hear a whining noise from the engine bay while accelerating at highway speeds. I took the car into the dealership where they confirmed the transmission has failed and needs to be replaced. All routine maintenance has been done on schedule and is on record with the dealership since original vehicle deployment. This vehicle has the UA80 transmission that is the center of multiple class-action lawsuits in the US due to early failure, allegedly due to design flaws. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2026 | POWER TRAIN | Hesitation when shifting gears. Rough or jerky gear changes. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2026 | POWER TRAIN,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | Transmission has gone bad 109k miles, took it to dealer they said Transmission is bad ,started with slippage in gears and clutch, gave me code for solenoids, and now is undriveable. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2026 | VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | At approximately 93,000 miles, my vehicle experienced a sudden transmission malfunction. About one week before the failure, intermittent warning messages appeared for Emergency Braking Malfunction and Forward Collision Warning Malfunction. These warnings appeared and disappeared several times over multiple days. About three days before the major transmission issues began, the vehicle was taken to an authorized Toyota dealership in North Brunswick, New Jersey, for a routine oil change. At that time, the vehicle was operating normally, and no transmission-related issues were reported. 3 days later, the warning messages returned, and the check engine light came on. Around the same time, the vehicle began experiencing serious transmission problems, including delayed shifting, harsh gear changes, and RPM flare-ups without corresponding acceleration. These issues created a serious safety risk because the vehicle could hesitate or fail to accelerate properly when merging into traffic, turning at intersections, or attempting to avoid hazards. The unpredictable shifting and loss of power increased the risk of a collision. After the check engine light appeared, the vehicle was returned to the same Toyota dealership. The dealership performed diagnostic testing and identified internal transmission and transmission control system faults, including solenoid-related failures and torque converter clutch issues. The dealership determined that the transmission requires full replacement and provided a repair estimate of approximately $12,000. The vehicle has no known prior accident damage related to this issue. there are numerous consumer complaints involving similar transmission problems in 2018–2019 Toyota Camry vehicles equipped with the 8-speed automatic transmission. I am filing this complaint because this failure occurred at relatively low mileage for a Toyota vehicle and presents a significant safety concern due to unpredictable power delivery and loss of acceleration. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2026 | ENGINE | While driving the vehicle on a street it shut off on it's own in the middle of the road. It was terrifying. Had it pulled to my house. Once I was able to get it towed it went to the Stockton CA Toyota Dealership and had it inspected with results of it needs a new transmission. I have not driven the vehicle since this happened, which is about 3 months now. It is financed through CAR MAX and I haven't had the vehicle a year. I have researched this and there are many having the same issues with this type of vehicle. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2026 | ENGINE | June 9,2026 I was in gig harbor washington visiting my son. I pulled into the right side of the drive way as I have done a 1000 times over the years. I was slowly pulling up to the right side of the garage and the car surged forward at full speed 5 ft away. It smashed the front of the house. Filed a claim with USAA car insurance. Last year in August of 2025 I was in the Tag n Go car wash. I pulled up they stopped me and I put the car in neutral. This let the car wash pull my car throught the car wash on a one track driver side system. My windshield was covered with soap and the car surged forward and hit the SUV in front of me. When the soap rinsed off I wash under the car in front of me. I put the car in reverse from neutral. It caused no damage to the car in front but caused about $1700.00 damage to my car. The car wash had video that showed my car surge forward and hit the car in front of me. This is two incidents in 11 months of my camry surging forward. | Crash: Yes Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2026 | POWER TRAIN | While driving the vehicle on a street it shut off on it's own in the middle of the road. It was terrifying. Had it pulled to my house. Once I was able to get it towed it went to Stockton CA Toyota Dealership and had it inspected with results of it needs a new transmission. They had no clue was was wrong with it just that it needed a new transmission. I have not driven the vehicle since this happened because it will not drive. It's going on 4 months now. The car at first was pulling and shaking and would not go into 3rd gear. It was stuck in acceleration. It was making a loud noise and it just got worse. I haven't had the vehicle for a year. I have researched this and there are many many having the same issue with this type of vehicle. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2026 | POWER TRAIN | Disgusted & deeply disappointed in my first (& last) experience owning a Toyota is an understatement. I confidently purchased a brand new Camry in 2019, based on their reputation for reliability. But, as soon as the warranty expired, the problems began. First, the electronic water pump failed, costing me $1200. The thermostat failed while I was on vacation last year, costing $300ish. Multiple battery issues. Then, a few months pass, check engine light pops up. Says it needs an O2 sensor. Replace it, light goes off, only to come back a few days later. Take to dealership where they charge me $200 to diagnose. They inform me the car will not accept after market parts & I'll need to purchase one from them instead for around $600. Yes. $600 for an O2 sensor. At only 129k miles, the transmission failed. The car stopped in the middle of an intersection & would not move forward, nearly causing me & my child to be hit. Mechanic informs me that it can be upwards of $7k to replace with a used transmission, $11k for new, & that's only WHEN they can get the part, which is on back order for MONTHS. This is because the supply can't keep up with the demand, as this model has widespread transmission issues. It was explicitly stated it is a "manufacturer defect." Yet, no recall. My online research absolutely supports that this is a large & very common problem that should warrant some responsibility from Toyota. It was on a rollback 4 times in 1 year. So, I was put in a position where I was forced to buy another car, since obviously I can't go without one for months. My 6 year old car (at time of breakdown) is now basically junk. It sits in my driveway, worthless, just 7 months after payoff. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2026 | POWER TRAIN | We experienced rough shifting, engine revving and now it won't shift out of first gear. The car is not driveable. We've taken it to Town & Country Toyota in Charlotte, NC where they said it could not be repaired and it needed replacing for $12,000. The car has 121,000 miles and is not under warranty. Also took it to an independent transmission shop and they said to replace the transmission as well. We think Toyota should issue a recall or some kind of compensation for this major expense. I have lots of stories similar to this by owners with 2018-2022 Toyota Camrys. Thank you. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Jun 2026 | POWER TRAIN | I am writing to formally document a serious safety incident involving my 2019 Toyota Camry XSE (VIN: [XXX]) and to express my deep dissatisfaction with the reliability of this vehicle and my experience obtaining support and repairs. On XXX while driving northbound on [XXX] to attend a wedding approximately 90 minutes from my home, my vehicle experienced a sudden and dangerous malfunction while traveling at approximately 70 mph. While operating at highway speed, I pressed the accelerator pedal in an attempt to maintain and increase speed with traffic flow. Although the engine RPMs increased, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The engine appeared to respond to throttle input, but power was not being transferred to the wheels. This unexpected loss of propulsion occurred without warning. The failure created an immediate safety hazard. As my vehicle rapidly lost the ability to keep pace with surrounding traffic, I narrowly avoided being struck by a freight truck traveling behind me. I was forced to coast the vehicle to the shoulder of the interstate while surrounded by highway traffic. This was a frightening experience that placed my safety and the safety of others at risk. After the incident, the vehicle was inspected by a Toyota dealership in Kennesaw, Georgia. I was quickly advised that the transmission was the source of the problem. While I understand that a formal diagnosis may be required to determine the exact cause of the failure, I was surprised to learn that the transmission was believed to have failed. This vehicle has had only one owner and has never exhibited any warning signs, symptoms, or performance issues that would have led me to believe there was a transmission problem. The transmission had not been slipping, hesitating, making unusual noises, or displaying any other indications of impending failure. Given these facts, I find it difficult to understand how a transmission in a Toyota vehicle could suddenly fail. | May 2026 | POWER TRAIN | Transmission whines on acceleration. Checked by dealership shop and they found fluid full of metal and material and recommended replacement of the transmission. Has 108,000 miles on it as of 3/23/2026 and whining started during August 2025. Still using vehicle as of 05/29/2026. New transmission and/or parts are currently on indefinite backorder from Toyota, so it cannot be repaired at this time. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2026 | POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE | Vehicle shut off while driving on highway during morning rush. Car shut off within seconds of flashing dashboard. I was in a dangerous situation with the possibility of creating a major highway accident, I was stuck on the highway with disappearing breakdown lane. Pulled code P26CB on OBD code reader at auto zone; P26CB7 pulled on Toyota diagnostic code reader= Engine coolant pump actuator stuck. Active tested water pump and pump. It working. Tested for power and ground at the pump and good. Need to replace electric water pump per Toyota. Diagnostic test $184.95 at Toyota. Toyota requesting $1,400.00 for repair not including diagnostic testing. Called Toyota dealership and Toyota and was told it doesn’t fall under warranty or goodwill that code P26CB isn’t the same as their code P26CB7. After the incident I researched Toyota Camry and this is a well documented issue that is being declined. My Toyota Camry was bought brand new and has 49,000 miles. I am traumatized and disappointed with the product and services I have received with this 2019 Toyota Camry. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2026 | POWER TRAIN | The UB80E (Front-Wheel Drive) transmission had a total failure at only 70,000 miles. The vehicle started to make unusual noises with harsh and delayed shifting. No warning lights or messages were displayed at any time. The mechanic who replaced the transmission stated my trans fluid was burned up possibly due to faulty overheated components and in his experience many Toyota models were suffering the same premature transmission issues. My cost for a rebuilt transmission was $7,700 plus 667.00 for a rear trans mount, as well as the cost of a rental car. I have all repair receipts for inspection. This defect in the UB80E transmission warrants immediate investigation by the NTSB as is a legitimate safety issues for the passengers of these Toyota models. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2026 | POWER TRAIN | Bought the car in july 2025. Transmission completely failed in January 2026. Transmission is on nationwide back order and i was told I am looking at june now. I have waited almost 6 months and am paying for a car I dont have | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| May 2026 | ENGINE | Transmission making noise and getting worse. Can’t get repaired or replaced for at least six months. Engine warning light is now on. Recently told this is a known issue with several class action suits being filed. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |

| May 2026 | POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM | At 170,000 miles, the 2019 Toyota Hybrid Camry LE has developed a consistent drive train lurch/stumble/shake around 20, 40 and 60 MPH, which is increasing in intensity and occurrence. This defect is quite startling and occurs regardless of efficiency, HVAC, cruise control, etc. settings. Examined twice by a Toyota dealer service department Toyota-trained licensed repair technician, no explanation or repair can be suggested. That is, I am expected to suffer this defect until left stranded. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2026 | POWER TRAIN | On [XXX] about [XXX] I was driving North on the [XXX] about a quarter mile north of the [XXX] exit and [XXX] 4 of a mile south of the [XXX] exit. The transmission in my 2019 Toyota Camry started to slip and failed to transfer power to the wheels. The engine reved to about 2800 RPM. Thankfully I was in the second to slowest lane to the right and was able to coast and change to the slowest lane and continued to coast and stopped on the shoulder, not blocking the flow of traffic. This was while the traffic was extremely heavy and it had begun to drizzle. It was extremely dangerous and other drivers patiently allowed me to get to the shoulder of the road where b y that time the vehicle had ZERO power to move at all. AAA was called and they towed mehome. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2026 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | The most definite sign is when you press the button and three doors lock, but one doesn't. Strange Noises: You may hear a buzzing, grinding, or clicking sound from inside the door when you try to use the power locks. This sound like a small motor inside the actuator struggling to work and causing the alarm not to armed the vehicle. Intermittent Operation: The lock might work one day and not the next, or it may be slow to respond. But is now happening everyday now. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2026 | POWER TRAIN | The car started jerking and the RPMs heratic while driving but would not advance pressing the accelerator on the freeway could have crashed or been involved in a major accident on the freeway was able to move out in time because pressing the accelerator did not work not did it move the car it completely lost power once on the side of road try reversing and noting happened could not drive or reverse completely dead on the side of the road without warning no lights came on the transmission no longer functions happened 4-18-2026 is being towed turns on but can't drive out move only wining noise | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2026 | POWER TRAIN | The transmission went out at 85k miles. I change the oil every 5k-7k miles. Has been very well maintained. Replaced it , it started to get jumpy and fail AGAIN even brand new transmission. It cost me $6,000 (I worked at Toyota) where it would have costed me $8,000+ … Toyota used to be very reliable… what happened ? | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2026 | POWER TRAIN | My transmission completely failed. It has been diagnosed by an auto body shop. It is available for inspection upon request. It has not been inspected by any of the named above. One day it was fine; driving normal, no erratic behavior. The next day the transmission starts slipping gears, shifting harshly, car shaking, and getting stuck in gear. Driving with my car acting up, having to pull over and turn the car off and back on just to try and get the transmission under control; which didn’t work. My check engine light didn’t even come on until AFTER my transmission completely failed. I have been without my car since February 2nd 2026 because I simply cannot afford to have my vehicle repaired. I bought a Toyota because of the reliability; but now I regret it. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
