THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE DISPLAYED IMPROPER TEMPERATURE READINGS AND THE SENSOR ALSO CONTROLLED THE VEHICLE'S COOLING FANS. THE FANS OPERATED INDEPENDENTLY DUE TO THE OUTSIDE SENSOR. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DICK HANNAH VOLKSWAGEN OF PORTLAND (12345 E BURNSIDE ST, PORTLAND, OR 97233, (503) 622-9507) WHERE THE PART WAS REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.

Oct 2019 POWER TRAIN,ENGINE DRIVING AT 42-45 MPH ON A 0% SLOPE. CAR INITIALLY MAINTAINING ABOUT 1,300 RPM. WITHOUT CHANGING SPEED, PRESSURE ON THE ACCELERATOR, OR INCLINE OF THE ROAD, TRANSMISSION WOULD SHIFT DOWN BY 3-4 GEARS RESULTING IN A JUMP IN THE RPM UP TO ABOUT 3,200. VEHICLE WOULD CYCLE THROUGH THE DOWN SHIFTING AND THE JUMP IN RPM, AND THEN SHIFTING BACK UP TO LOWER THE RPM BACK TO NORMAL. WITHIN 1.2 MILES, CAR CYCLED THROUGH THIS THREE TIMES, AND THAT WAS WHAT I COULD CAPTURE ON VIDEO! IT CONTINUED FOR 15-20 MILES BEFORE I COULD GET IT TO A VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP. FINALLY, THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE GAUGE SHOT UP AND SAT ABOUT MAXIMUM VALUE FOR ABOUT 3 SECONDS AND THEN FELL BACK DOWN TO DEAD CENTER (NORMAL OPERATING TEMP). AT THAT POINT, I WAS ALREADY ON MY WAY TO VW TO DROP IT OFF. ABOUT 1 MILE FROM THE DEALERSHIP, I GOT THE "CHECK COOLANT! SEE OWNER'S MANUAL." ALERT ON MY DASH EVEN THOUGH THE TEMP GAUGE WAS NORMAL AT THAT TIME. FINALLY GOT TO VW AND WAS TOLD THE TRANSMISSION THING WAS NORMAL ("THEY LIKE TO HUNT A LOT"). I DON'T BELIEVE THAT FOR A SECOND. AFTER 18,000 MILES, I WOULD NOT ALL OF THE SUDDEN REALIZE THE TRANSMISSION DOING THAT. SHIFTING BY ONE OR TWO GEARS IS PROBABLY NORMAL FOR A DSG, AND I'M SURE THAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING ALL ALONG - BUT IT IS SO SMALL THAT I DON'T NOTICE THE CHANGE. WHEN A CAR SHIFT DOWN BY 4 GEARS WITHIN 1-2 SECONDS AND THE CAR LUNGES FORWARD AS THE RPM SHOOT UP TO MAINTAIN THE SPEED, THAT IS SOMETHING THAT ISN'T NORMAL. CURRENTLY VEHICLE IS STILL IN THE SHOP. WILL LIKELY NEED A NEW WATER PUMP, COOLANT RESERVOIR, WIRE HARNESS (DUE TO COOLANT MIGRATION). THEY ALSO THINK THERE MAY BE TRANSMISSION FLUID INSIDE THE COOLANT RESERVOIR, BUT ARE STILL TRYING TO TELL ME THAT THE SHIFTING PROBLEM IS "NORMAL"... I'M TIRED OF DEALING WITH VOLKSWAGEN AND THEIR SHIFTY SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND PROCEDURES AND CAN'T WAIT TO GET RID OF THIS CAR.

THIS RESULTED ON BLACK MOLD TO DEVELOP THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE. ALL CARPETS REPLACED ON MY VEHICLE; HOWEVER, EXTREME FOUL CHEMICAL ODOR CONTINUES IN THE INTERIOR AND MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO BREATH. THE DEALER HAS MY VEHICLE FOR MORE THAN 9 DAYS AND STILL NO RESOLUTION. ISSUE STARTED WITH LESS THAN 1 YEAR OF OWNERSHIP OF THIS BRAND NEW CAR. THIS COULD BE A SAFETY HAZARD IN THE ACCIDENT IF NO PASSENGER IS PRESENT. THE OTHER ISSUE I HAVE WITH THIS CAR IS THE ACCELERATION IS INCONSISTENT. SOMETIMES I CAN HIT THE ACCELERATOR AND THE CAR FLIES, OTHER TIMES, THE CAR STUTTERS AND HAS SOME LAG.

IT WAS TERRIFYING. IT SEEMED TO TAKE SEVERAL MINUTES OF FIGHTING AND TRYING TO REGAIN CONTROL OF STEERING MY CAR WHEN SUDDENLY I WAS ABLE TO STEER AGAIN AND STAY IN MY LANE. WHEN I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THE REASON THIS OCCURRED WAS THAT ALL 4 OF THE WHEELS WERE OUT OF ALIGNMENT. THIS MAKES NO SENSE AS I'VE NOT HIT ANY POTHOLES OR ANYTHING THAT COULD CAUSE ONE OR TWO TO BE OUT OF ALIGNMENT, NEVER MIND ALL 4. THEY REALIGNED THE WHEELS AND RESET THE LANE ASSISTANCE. I'VE SINCE TURNED OFF THE LANE ASSISTANCE AS I NO LONGER TRUST THAT FEATURE. TOO BAD SINCE THAT WAS ONE REASON I PURCHASED THAT CAR.

I PUT THE PARK, STOPPED THE CAR AND WAITED AND RESTARTED THE CAR. WE ENTERED THE HIGHWAY AGAIN AND AS I TRIED TO ACCELERATE, THE CAR HESITATED AND DECELERATED AGAIN. THIS TIME I MOVED OVER TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER , STOPPED AND GOT OUT OF THE CAR. MY HUSBAND'S FRIEND WAS IN THE CAR WITH ME AND MY HUSBAND WAS FOLLOWING BEHIND US. I CALLED MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND EXPLAINED TO THEM WHAT WAS HAPPEING WITH THE CAR AND THEY CAME AND TOWED THE CAR TO OURISMAN LAUREL VOKLSWAGON. I LEFT A NOTE AND A KEY IN THE DROP OFF SERVICE BOW AND NOW 24 HOURS LATER I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A CALL FROM ANY SERVICE PERSONNEL. IT SEEMS FROM REVIEWING OTHER COMPLAINTS, THAT SEVERAL PEOPLE (MORE THAN 20) HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE.

Jul 2019 SERVICE BRAKES MY WIFE AND I WERE DRIVING IN OUR TIGUAN WITH OUR 7 MONTH OLD AND 3 YEAR OLD IN THE BACK. WE WERE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35-40MPH ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET DURING THE DAY WITH GOOD VISIBILITY. AS WE APPROACHED A METAL PLATE OVER THE ROAD (FOR A ROAD CONSTRUCTION PROJECT) THE TIGUAN'S "FRONT ASSIST" SYSTEM CAUSED THE CAR TO NEARLY SKID TO A STOP. THE CAR BEHIND US LUCKILY DID NOT REAR END US BUT HAD WE BEEN GOING FASTER AND THE CAR BEHIND US HAD BEEN FOLLOWING CLOSER, THE OUTCOME WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. THIS IS A WORRYING PROBLEM BECAUSE THE METAL PLATE WAS NO MORE THAN AN INCH HIGHER THAN THE PAVEMENT AND IS A VERY STANDARD THING TO SEE IN CONSTRUCTION SITES. IT SHOULD NOT HAVE CAUSED THE FRONT ASSIST TO ACTIVATE.

Jun 2019 POWER TRAIN TRANSMISSION HAS LOUD KNOCKING AND WHINING SOUNDS WHEN ACCELERATING. SLOW TO RESPOND TO POWER DURING PASSING, CHANGING LANES OR ENTERING HIGHWAYS. DANGEROUS WHILE CROSSING A HIGHWAY FROM A STOP SIGN. TOLD BY SEVERAL VW TECHNICIANS THAT THIS IS "NORMAL". HAVE DISCOVERED THAT VW HAD ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN TO ALL ITS DEALERS TO TELL CUSTOMERS WHO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION THAT "THIS IS A NORMAL CONDITION". HAVE HEARD THE SAME RESPONSE FROM 3 DEALERS. THIS IS A COVER UP TO AVOID A RECALL OF THIS UNPREDICTABLE TRANSMISSION.

Jun 2019 VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED EVERY DAY WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC OR MERGING ONTO THE HIGHWAY EVER SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED ON OCTOBER 18, 2018. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO GUNTHER VOLKSWAGEN (4300 FL-7, COCONUT CREEK, FL 33073) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE PERFORMED AS DESIGNED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000. *AS CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN A WEEK AGO TODAY. TWO TRANSMISSIONS AND STILL HAVING SERIOUS PROBLEMS. THEY STILL HAVE THE VEHICLE. I DON'T CONSIDER THAT AS DESIGNED TO DRIVE THAT WAY. IT JUST INCREASES WITH PROBLEMS. I WON'T DRIVE IT FOR MY SAFETY AS WELL AS THE DRIVERS OUT THERE. *JB

Jun 2019 POWER TRAIN WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP IN THE 2018 VW TIGUAN IT HESITATES FOR APPROXIMATELY A FEW SECONDS BEFORE MOVING FORWARD. THIS OCCURS AT ALL TIMES WHEN ACCELERATING INTO THE LOWER GEARS 1-3. ONCE PAST GEARS 1-3 THE VEHICLE OPERATES NORMALLY. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WHEN TRYING TO MERGE WITH TRAFFIC OR PULLING OUT ON THE OPEN ROAD. DURING RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH VARIOUS YEARS OF THE CAR MODEL AND HAS YET TO BE ADDRESSED BY VW. PLEASE HELP, I FEAR FOR MY FAMILY TO BE IN THIS VEHICLE WHEN THIS OCCURS.
