| May 2023 | STEERING | The contact owns a 2018 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the steering wheel was stiff. While driving at various speeds, the steering wheel was difficult to turn. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the steering shaft needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 42,000 |
| Apr 2023 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | During replacement of Brake Light Switch, observed that original switch nut was installed up-side-down. Replaced switch, because vehicle intermittently would not go into gear. It is highly likely that brake lights were also not working intermittently. Vehicle only had 20K miles and I assume it came from Factory with the switch nut installed up-side-down. This condition allows the brake switch to be misaligned. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2023 | STEERING | Steering wheel is becoming harder and harder to turn right or left | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2023 | SERVICE BRAKES | Low braking power. Car couldn’t move | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2023 | POWER TRAIN,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE | I purchased a brand new 2018 toyota camry le with nothing but problems from the beginning. The brakes have been bad from day 1. The make noise when braking and they supposedly fixed it. I was driving on the freeway down a hill and when I went to press on the brakes they did not do anything and I had the pedal all the way down. I had to pump the brakes putting me and my passengers in danger. The engine hesitates when accelerating. I took it in twice already and they don't know what the issue is. Once it finally decides to go it accelerates excessively putting the driver in danger. This has been going in for years. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | The car’s dashboard will light up and all systems started failing with no warning while driving. The car will not accelerate, brake, or steer properly. It happened twice and the Toyota mechanics couldn’t figure out what was happening and just tried changing something out on the engine. A few months later the same thing happened again (today). This is very dangerous as I have no control when it happens and I can’t control the car. In all instances, I was driving on a busy road, the entire dash lit up, I couldn’t accelerate despite pushing it all the way down with my foot, and I couldn’t steer the car. Luckily, I was able to get off the road before I was in an accident. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2023 | STEERING | After continued usage steering becomes stiff and turning becomes very difficult. This then possess a safety risk to not only the driver but other drivers. The cause is failure of the intermediate steering shaft. Toyota has recalled 170,000+ 2018 Camrys because of this - https://www.tsbsearch.com/Toyota/22TE02, but it is clear as per my incident and other online forums, there are 2018 Carmys that have not been recalled where the intermediate steering shaft fails without notice. When the dealership was called, they said they were well aware of the problem and stated they would order the part even before my car was taken to the shop, even though the repair was not covered under my VIN. The dealership replaced the intermediate steering shaft at a cost to me. There were no warning lights or other symptoms prior to the failure. The failure first appeared around March 27th, 2023. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Apr 2023 | TIRES | The contact owns a 2018 Toyota Camry equipped with Hankook Tires, Tire Line: Kinergy GT, Tire Size: 235/45/R18, DOT Number: 5MN91BH. The contact stated that during a routine tire rotation, the tire technician advised the contact that she needed to replace all four tires due to premature treadwear. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where replacement tires were purchased. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate vehicle failure mileage was 95,000. The tire failure mileage was 33,000. | Crash: No Fire: No | 95,000 |
| Apr 2023 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | That gas damper strut on the trunk lid failed, allowing the trunk lid to sprint open dangerously fast. I have been hit in the face with it and also on the top of my head when it rebounds. The car is available for inspection. We will have the car serviced soon and have them confirm the failure. The car/failure has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance or others. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |

The contact stated that while driving through an intersection at approximately 46 mph when another vehicle driving at approximately 40 mph crashed into their driver-side door. The air bag did not deploy. Both vehicles were damaged. The contact's vehicle was totaled and was determined to be totaled. A police report was filed. The contact received injuries to their head, back, and leg. The passenger received injuries to their upper body. No medical attention was needed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. | Mar 2023 | SERVICE BRAKES | on Feb 20, 2023, during my evening lunch break about 7:30 pm, I drove my car to a nearby gas station to fill it. As I was attempting to back into place, my brakes froze and a "Low Braking Power" message appears in my dash and my car hit a pole because it would not stop. On Feb 21, 2023, I towed it to our family mechanic who informed me that there was a recall on this issue and to take it to a dealer instead. I had it towed to Temecula Valley Toyota. They offered me a rental car while they repaired the recall issue and sent a request to Toyota to repair the damage to my bumper from the loss of brake performance. I was told there would be no charge because it was a recall. They wanted a deposit of $100 since we only had a debit card not a credit card. on March 8, someone left a message on my voicemail saying Toyota said they were only paying for 2 days and they wanted to let us know they would be charging a substantial amount to our car. This time of the call was 4:48Pm. We called back at 4:55p and got no answer. I immediately checked my bank statement and I had been charged $675. Toyota has had my car since 2-21-23 and no info on its return. Customer Service Relation person called after we did an online complaint with Toyota, and also with a Toyota person at Toyota.com named Matthew. The Customer Relations person who called around 3-18 or 3-19 and said the case was with Toyota Legal. Its 3-28-23 and no information. We want our $675.00 back because we have auto insurance that covers rentals @ $51 per day. We have reported the accident to Farmer's who cannot access our car as long as its at Toyota. We have paid our note and have not had usage of our car and we want that car note returned as well. | Crash: Yes Fire: No Towed | Unknown |
| Mar 2023 | ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM,BACK OVER PREVENTION | The a25a-fks engine fails to idle properly and will stall at times due to a cylinder imbalance. ICS malfunction light comes on as well. This puts other people at risk because a vehicle stalling or malfunction of the Toyota Safety Sense system can lead to car accident. Vehicle was taken to two independent mechanics and couldn’t find the root of the problem. Was told to go to a Toyota Dealership. A Toyota dealership inspected the vehicle, done several tests, swapped computer modules and couldn’t find the cause. The dealership replaced fuel injectors, fuel pump and had done a cleaning on the intake and the vehicle still had the trouble code. 4K worth of work and the vehicle still persisted with the issue. What I first noticed from the car was an odd knocking noise when starting the car, followed by excessive white smoke at idle, parking sensors not working, the car improperly starting for the first time followed by a ICS Malfunction, blinking parking sensor icon and check engine light. Code: P219C. The dealership wants to charge me 10K to take the engine apart to either replace a faulty part (within the engine) or putting in a new engine all together. Several recalls for Toyota Camrys from 2018 and 2020 have sighted defects with the engine blocks causing white smoke and stalling. These recalls should be extended to more manufacturing months as this is a noticeable flaw. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Mar 2023 | SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE | 2018 Camry XSE BRAKES GO ON WHILE ON DRIVE PRESSING ON THE BREAK WOULD BE A STRUGGLE WHEN DRIVING PADAL ON THE BRAKE WERE STIFF HARD TO STEP ON EVEN AFTER DEALERSHIP PROVIDED THE SERVICE FOR THE RECALL VEHICLE STILL HAD ISSUES AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY GO ON FOR NO REASON WHILE BACKING UP THE VEHICLE SENSORS ARE DETECTING HUMAN or ITEM THAT ARE NOT THERE. SCREEN ON VEHICLE MARKS SEE DEALERSHIP FOR MAINTANCE. 2 DAYS AFTER IT WAS HELD FOR 2WEEKS THERE FOR MAINTANCE. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Feb 2023 | POWER TRAIN | Transmission issues car will not accelerate and then will abruptly speed up. The vehicle will stall at 15 mph and then shift and shake. The safety of driver put at risk while on the road because the car would go from 15 mph to 40 mph and traffic following behind could potentially rear end vehicle. Dealership inspected vehicle and informed Camry will need new transmission, no warranty left, current mileage only 69,500. No warning lamps, messages, or symptoms prior to failure. The vehicle was serviced at Toyota late December and no transmission issues indicated. The vehicle was purchased new directly from Toyota dealership. The vehicle should not have transmission issues with mileage of only 69,500. Toyota has failed consumers enormously with the 2018 Camry SE model. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |

| Feb 2023 | SERVICE BRAKES | I was stopped at a stoplight with my foot on the brake when all of the sudden my car just started driving forwad. I step on brake harder and no response. Due to the failure to securely latch, the audible chime continually beeped. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the mechanic was in the process of replacing the seat belt and the latch. | Jan 2023 | POWER TRAIN | Toyota Camry 2018 SE - 8-speed automatic transmission fails to engage properly when leaving stoplight or making slow turn from highway. Left stoplight and made left turn at next intersection where transmission failed to engage and vehicle stopped moving (engine remained on but transmission disengaged). Number of following vehicles made emergency maneuvers to avoid the stopped vehicle. Put vehicle in Park, turned off ignition then restarted. Vehicle OK after that (this was fourth time a similar incident occurred with subject vehicle). Toyota dealer in Katy TX could not identify source of problem and indicated that nothing could be done to help. No other technical inspection was conducted other than by Toyota technicians. No warning lamps or signs prior to failure. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
| Dec 2022 | AIR BAGS | Driving on the freeway, cruise control set, a remnant of a large tire was in my lane, I could not avoid hitting it, it caused my car to lose control, drive up on the concrete divider placed by construction crews, came back down to the freeway and hit the back of a semi causing my car to then spin out of control and eventually landing in a ditch. The entire front end of the car was damaged, the car was deemed totaled by the auto repair place. During this incident none of the airbags deployed. | Crash: Yes Fire: No Injuries: 1 Towed Medical attention | Unknown |
| Nov 2022 | POWER TRAIN | While traveling 54 mph my transmission stop responding to my gas peddle input. I pulled over to the side of the highway and placed the selector into neutral and back into drive which help with the problem but it returned within minutes. The check engine light illuminated and I drove to the mechanic and was told that the diagnostic code was the transmission sensor and the sensor was checked but know problems were found. With this car, I have pulled into the highway, in traffic , in the car stalled, as if it had extreme Turbo Lag which is very dangerous. The transmission is awful. | Crash: No Fire: No | Unknown |
